Man I wish I could watch this live. England Croatia with Turpin officiating is probably the best match so far from that standpoint

 

9' - 100% correct PK. An easy gift for Turpin and England.

 

11' - The freeze frame I saw for the PK retake has part of the foot obstructed by the crossbar, suggesting (part of) the goalkeeper's foot might be above the line.

It was at an angle from up above. They most likely have a view we don't have access to.

 

On ITV in the UK I couldn't hear the announcement but the commentators said encroachment by an outfield player who was then involved with the clearance after the save. It'll be interesting to see it again.

 

I mean they better, and they better show it, because that is not a clear and obvious error from what I'm seeing.

 

Surely we will see the side angle.

 

The player that cleared the ball was about 2 yards into the area.

 

Annoying that the broadcast doesn’t get the image that shows he was off, especially as they showed one that looked like he was on.

 

I'm very curious what kind of side angle wouldn't be blocked by the AR

 

If the camera is in line with the goal line our view is conclusive: obstruction by the crossbar necessarily means above the goal line.

 

Doesn't matter. Keeper on the line is the VAR's call.

 

The picture on the broadcast certainly looked like the GK was still on or over the line.

But I watched the replay and while Turpin says GK, in any case the Croatia defender who headed the ball out was well inside the box.

 

When video support (VAR or FVS) is in use the AR will be in line with the penalty mark.
