Probably just dumb luck, given who the teams are and how Faghani was always possible/likely here, but I did just note this is at MetLife, where Faghani did his last U.S.-based match last summer.

Foul on Senegal for French player stepping on his own keeper?

Faghani being very particular around that first corner kick.

Seemed like he reacted to what happened without seeing what happened.

4' is a careless foul, but still a dangerous one. Fun start. Nothing malicious but you can tell it will be combative, I think.

He had a plan and he stuck to it. Facts became only partially relevant.

hmmm. So would that be reviewable if it had been cautioned? Or not reviewable because not an offense by the defender?

That fox 40 sonik blast Faghani is using sounds super faint on television. As he calls that kick or piadm on Senegal for France, sounded very faint on television.

    or my hearings gone.

How is that not a foul? I'm so confused.

41' - An advantage underway anyway, but a clear miss when I can't of any good reason for it - a foot not landing square on the turf is usually a sign something is under it.

43', handball against Senegal given by the 4th. On a play 10 yards from the PA.

If he signals advantage instead of the finger wag, is it still a miss? Senegal had a shot on goal right after.

Don’t think the 4th gave that one. Would have been easier to give a foul coming out, but pretty sure he doesn’t want to call any of those body to body fouls from the side.

The foul is close to a mandatory YC and the player is genuinely hurt by the foul, the latter he draws further attention to by stopping play to address. Not indicating he had a foul there is not good.

Didn't he do both? He was definitely wagging his finger but also seemed to signal advantage

I'll relent if he did signal advantage; I just did not see it.

Edit: looked again and am still convinced he just missed this.

FWIW, Clattenberg was confident that he did not play advantage.

This is spot-on. 40' is a mandatory yellow card. He has to have that. It's also pretty clear (we have it on Referee Cam!).

No, he just double downed on his finger wag. There was no advantage.

That delayed OS flag made it look like the wrong player was flagged.

I just watched this. What makes you think the 4th gave it?

I'm just catching up and done with the first half, so two points.

My standard assertion that I've never been a Faghani fan, despite the plaudits he's won. Not quite Irmatov, but more in the Ramos zone for me.

Second, the incident at 40' where Faghani missed a yellow card introduces a new KMI category to the referee equation. As was referenced by the announcers, if a team concedes when they are down a man from an injury 1-minute sit... and it was a missed foul/yellow card... that is going to be potentially VERY consequential for a referee.
