how about the 2 red cards for the retaliation from the Ghanaian players. I don’t like to see red cards but how they got away with that with not much was interesting
There was a problem with that statment and this one, too. If Portugal was benefited with the penalty, clearly Ghana can be happy not to have played most the second half down to 10 men after the ref forgave a clear red card to one of their player who head-butted Felix. I'm not sure how at what point you caught the game, but Portugal had a sitter 10 minutes into the game that Ronaldo missed bc he's slow now. Ghana didn't exist during the first half. At all.
Some highlights from the game. The 974 Stadium is unique as it is made out of 974 shipping containers and will be dismantled after the tournament. Can't really see it so well from the inside, but looks trippy from the outside. I think that penalty was just karma for Onyewu 2006 ;-)
Seemed to me like Felix initiated the head-butting. That would have been a red card for him, like Pepe in 2014.
Dipped his eyeline to the shorter player, you are not being objective if you’re being serious. Should’ve been sent off by todays standards.
Portugal 11 shots Ghana 9 shots Portugal 5 shots on target Ghana 3 shots on target Portugal 2 big chances missed Ghana 0 big chances missed Portugal 62% possession Ghana 38% possession Portugal certainly were unusually nervy in defense today, particularly Danilo and Cancelo, but it can be corrected. The far better team won today, just made it unnecessarily close. We can all move on now.
Well, thanks for the video, as it clearly confirms Felix started it, skull to skull. Sure, nobody's gonna die from it, but that's pretty much all Pepe did to Muller in 2014, and he got sent off for it.
Portugal 2 wins in 2 world cups against Ghana. We usually beat African teams, seem to suit our style. The next two games will be harder for us due to playing styles imo however Uruguay will need to come out and play as I feel Ghana will get something from them matchday 3
It's not about "who started it", it's about who did something who could have created an injury. The Ghanean player initiated the head stroke on Felix, not the other way around.
"Who started it" is always important. Ask any referee, although sometimes they don't see the initiator, and blame the wrong guy. In any event, striking someone with the bones in the front of your skull is potentially a lot more dangerous than brushing their face with your forehead, although in this case both parties were obviously not really trying to hurt each other.
Making contact with a head is always a foul. Correct me if I'm wrong, neither were booked for that. The Ghanian player was booked for something else, wasn't he?
In fairness most good teams beat the African teams. No disrespect, just the CAF overall record isn't exactly great.
Portugal deserved to win but besides discussing Santos tactics we really need to discuss if Neves has enough quality to start for Portugal. For me he hasn't, it is between William or Palhinha, if I was even more radical I would give it a go for Vitinha instead Neves who IMO is a bit hyped because he has been playing for a while in England and because Lopetegui called him to Porto first team when he was 17 years old. He surelly isn't better on that role than William for the NT, even if the majority of Portugal fans hate William. Anyway hopefully after this WC we see the likes of Ronaldo and Pepe leaving and if Florentino keeps the form he has for Benfica perhaps it will be time for William to leave the squad for Euro 2024. Always nice to see there's a couple of guys around who were in 2018 trolling Iranian fans and now they all became friends. Hope Iran on a couple of hours gets a result against Wales, not because Queiroz is their coach but because they deserve better days ahead.
I wonder if they had enough after all those disallowed goals for Argentina, because I'm surprised they didn't even check that one. Also the fact they didn't even go to the review on the PK is a joke.
I'm not even disputing the better team won. It's the complete lack of consistency among the refs that makes this sport at times a joke. Yesterday a clear foul in the box in the Canada/Belgium match where Laryea was stamped on doesn't even go to review, yet today the ball looked pretty clearly won to me and again no review. Just give Ronaldo his PK so he can make records. Argentina got like 3 goals reversed for the tightest of margins, yet a Screenshot seems to show Leaos foot to be offside, and they don't even put it under review. Look at the England/Iran game a ridiculous PK given to Iran for a slight tug, yet earlier England were denied a clear bear hug tackle in the box. I already knew from last worldcup that the VAR is a joke.
Yeah trust me I get it. We all have or all will feel hard done by refs or VAR at some point, we're just kinda stuck with it. I'll never understand that handball call for Cedric given to Iran in 2018 that gave them the draw, and potentially cost us the group, but such is life. I know I'll still be watching this corrupt sport I love tomorrow.
It's not the sport that's corrupt. It's human nature that has athletes compete in a way that gives them advantages, but the "governing" body that sucks. Like all governing bodies. End governments, stop paying taxes, use cash
Leao was clearly not offside because we have automatic offside so stop with BS screenshots As for the PK yes it was easy but Joao Felix had a legitimate PK not given and Ronaldo scored a perfectly legal goal Joao https://streamin.me/v/e09f8ee5
Many governments are corrupt, but FIFA takes corruption to a whole new level. They don't even seem to care if they get caught, because there is no real international body that holds them accountable.
Changing the rules now... the past matters to you? Again... we're not bringing Italy up... we choked and don't deserve to be there. I'm talking about your country. That's never a penalty.. and Leao is 100% offside. The whole world saw it. You live inside your little bubble and pretend everyone is out to get you.... sad life.
