He puts Argentina down a man but then takes away a Spanish goal? Is the conspiracy that he bet on penalties?

Last replay showed stamp to top of boot. Not clearly and obviously wrong. I’m okay with it.

If VAR confirms contact I guess I can love with it.

I've been watching the whole tournament here at this bar and everyone knows I follow this chat. And we're quite interested in what you all had to say about the no goal. :)

really? looked like a "coming together" to me. They just got tangled up. That's not a stamp

Messi getting a yellow for booting the ball away after that foul he committed almost certainly never happens but would have been wild.

Meh. It’s slight. Otamendi dramatizes because he’s on the wrong side of the play. I don’t like it. No way that’s given as a penalty.

That said, replay does show Vincic called this and not the Martinez contact. So at least that’s good. I was worried he called the Martinez play but then VAR justified it by finding the Otamendi foul.

I mean, there is a stamp. The only question is whether it's the Argentine's fault.

But if you flip it VAR is not sending that down.

I agree. I chose “not clearly and obviously wrong” for the reason you identify. Having given it, it’s not clearly and obviously wrong. So I’m okay with it. But I think if he hadn’t given it, there couldn’t be a lot of complaints.

Getting tired of all these people just stopping dead in the tracks and then getting trucked over and then wanting a foul

yeah I thought that was a foul in real time but he sees he can’t get the ball and just stops right in front of cucurella

Based on how this World Cup is going, they'll win on PK's with Emi scoring the game-winner.

The original post had “Martinez” so I was confused.

I also think we should discern between “stamp” and “contact on top of foot.” Those really are two different things.

    I think you’re right

Neither calling it nor not calling it was clearly and obviously wrong.

;) The second CT was undeniable. This one is sellable. But it’s a terrible call. Especially with the stuff he’s letting go at this point.
