Spain showing some very good runs and movements off the ball. This is a very commanding performance against a helpless team.

I thought Costa Rica would bunker and Spain would struggle to open them up but that has not been the case at all.

I came here to say this. I was expecting a 2-0 or 1-0 with the goals coming in the second half.

Germany must be sweating right now

Yup, they should be. When you have a really weak team in a group it kind of reduces your margin for error. For e.g. Japan have to be heavily favorite v Costa Rica which means Germany are in need of six points (and even that might not be enough).

Spain is the best team I've seen so far at this tournament, easily.

I should add Costa Rica was legitimately motivated and in a positive headspace coming into this one.

Listen I really enjoy the ET given this world cup but at 6-0 there is no need for 8 added minutes

Well, if three teams finish tied on six points in this group, Spain won't have to worry about the tiebreaker....

Costa Rica had never lost by more than 3 goals in any WC match.

I don't want to be mean but misery does like company and it was lonely to see Iran being the only side to let in 6 goals. But 7:0 is enough. Spain made a big statement although it remains to be seen if they can replicate this (almost flawless) performance (in not the score) in other games.

WOW that was amazing. Spain has really developed a lot under Enrique! Spain and Netherlands are best teams so far.

The Costa Rica strategy was to bunker for 90 minutes and hope for the best and it fell apart with the first goal. Pathetic.

Even Qatar is way more ambitious despite similar technical limitations.

I think we already know how this group will turn out:

    1. Spain
    2. Japan
    3. Germany
    4. Costa Rica

Does anyone disagree? It looks pretty obvious.

Scenes when Costa Rica beats Germany in the last game.

But in all seriousness, not that I was expecting Costa Rica to win but to lose by 7? Jesus

I don't know what Costa Rica was afraid of after already being down 3:0 at HT? What worse could happen. Even when it was 5:0, Costa Rica remained uninterested to really look for a goal.
