They have played an unbalanced schedule. This is their fifth home match, against only two on the road. Their four home matches have been two high scoring one-goal wins and two draws and over half of their goal differential comes from last week’s 4-0 road comb over DC United. CITY is coming off back-to-back points earned late in games, but is still 0-2-1 on the road with just one road goal. Discuss.
The point against NYC sets us up to be in a position to get the hoped for 4 points from this 3 game road trip. We need a win in either one of the next 2. I get the sense that FCD is the easier competition, but Seattle will be coming off of 2 games with Tigres in the CCC. (Why doesn't Seattle play this weekend?) Realistically, 1 point out of the 6 on offer wouldn't be a catastrophe.
Head-to-head record. CITY is 1-3-2 against FC Dallas, 5 points, 0.83 PPG, 3 GF, 9 GA, Net -6, Form LWDLLD. At Home versus Dallas, CITY is 1-0-2, 5 points, 1.67 PPG, 3 GF, 2 GA, Net +1, Form WDD. Combined Disciplinary Summary and Player Availability reports. St. Louis CITY SC. Suspended: none. Out (illness or injury): Celio Pompeu. Out (not due to injury): none. Eduard Lowen is playing for CITY 2 tonight and almost certainly won’t be rostered for the FCD match. Questionable: none. YC Caution: none. FC Dallas. Suspended: none. Out (illness or injury) Anderson Julio and Bernard Kamungo. Out (not due to illness or injury): none. Questionable: none. YC Caution: none. Updated Weather Forecast. Overcast, rain mid-day, by match time mid-70s, humid, SSE breeze 10-13 MPH. On more positive notes, it won’t be the usual Frisco full sauna experience, and it’s unlikely we will have a month-long mid-match lightning delay like our 2023 trip.
Weather update. There's a chance of showers during the match. It's bring-a-light-jacket (or poncho) day in Frisco. Roster update. Eduard Lowen, Tomas Ostrak, and Tyson Pearce played for CITY 2 last night, and won't be rostered for the FC Dallas match.
I'm fearing the worst right now. The last 2 games that we have taken 4 points from, were some of our worst performances of the season...so far this is one of our best. Hopefully we can get some deserved points to match the early performance.
I think that was our best 45 to date. Polvara is really growing on me (thanks Lutz!). We are a legit 9 (read: not Cordova nor Becher) away from being in the playoffs, and a few players from being a top 4 seed.
Overall happy with the performance and it's a good point on the road. However (), Damet's substitution usage is criminal. He waits way too long. Santos and Edelman were dead for 10 minutes before they came off, and we almost gave the game away in that time. Why the f*ck do you wait until the 95th minute to bring on McSorley for Becher? Teuchert has got to go in June as well. He has fresh legs and is 1 on 1 with the keeper...has to be a goal! For all those gripes solid 75 minutes, apart from Orozco giving away the goal (we can blame the concussion for that). Back line deserves a clean sheet here at some point. I'm excited to go Wednesday and hopefully see Lowen. He played as the right sided 10 for CITY2, and I'm ok plugging him in straight there and getting Cordova and Teuchert out.
No matter what else happens this weekend, we're within 5 points of the last playoff spot and could be within 2 points. We're somehow weathering the toughest first third schedule in the MLS with a cobbled together lineup. It's a long way to getting out of the woods, but this could be much, much worse. I'm concerned about Orozco. The look on his face when he came off wasn't good. I think Damet's playing for keeps in the USOC match on Wednesday.
I mostly agree with this part. I think my big takeaway on Damet so far, he can coach! You look at the style of play, he has a plan and he is implementing his plan. He can't manage. He needs to improve in this area.
