AFCB started their 13M pound deadline day transfer Veljko Milosavljević who is an 18 year old center back with 36 career appearances in the Serbian league. The usual starter was injured

Matai wasn't even on the bench

Dunno if this will end up being a good move for him

I understood why he didn't go on loan last January so that he could settle in at the club and get acclimated to England, but it's mindboggling that he didn't go on loan for this season. I'd love to hear something from Bournemouth about what their plan is for him.

why did bournemout even bother signing him?
    why?

    really

my guess is they know they can sell him back to MLS for a huge markup later on down the line after never playing him

    He’s been injured.

U.S U-20 head coach Marko Mitrovic said last week at the U-20 camp that when Matai played against Morocco on Saturday it was his first game at any level in 4 months

Did you get any sense of what Bournemouth's plan for him is?

Matai’s U-20 call-up in September was done for the staff to assess where he was in his recovery ahead of the U-20 World Cup. They needed to check in with him before they made the final roster

It was not done with the assumption he was 100% fit and healthy.

My understanding is that Matai was assessed by the U.S. U-20 team during the September camp with regards to his recovery from injury.

In the end, both Bournemouth and U.S. Soccer mutually agreed Matai was not where he needed to be to go to the U-20 World Cup.

He'll be in the mix for the 2028 Olympic team.

Sorry to keep asking, but any idea on their plans for him?

U21s, loan, first team, etc.? I guess his injury prevented a loan from the start of the season, or was it always their plan to keep him at the club?

I don’t know. My guess is that their plans for him were going to be decided when he returned to being 100%. A loan seems logical but you can’t do that until he’s healthy

Second works fine for me - it was written a few weeks ago. A nice update on how things have gone for him since transferring in January.

Matai's contract is up this summer. No word if Bournemouth plan to resign him.

    That doesnt sound accurate

he signed in Jan 25, that would mean his initial contract was 1.5 years

Wonder if a lower to mid Championship side would take him. His physical attributes give him so much potential.
