Before he turned pro with DCU, there were some posts on the DW thread about him spending some time at Bayern Munich. I don't remember why we didn't just start a thread for him at the time. It might have been because by the time we worked it all out, he'd signed for United. Anyway, onward!
EPL calling... Steven Goff @stevengoff.bsky.social "Things are moving along" in D.C. United-Bournemouth talks concerning possible transfer of homegrown defender Matai Akinmboni to the Premier League club, per source. Sides seem to be on same page. Another offer expected soon. All part of the complicated transfer process.
This will be interesting to see what his path to first team action will look like. Buck had about 3,300 mins with the Revs and he's just been exclusively PL2 with Southampton. Matai is just shy of 750. Granted it's not a great one to one comparison given the positional differences and the fact that Bournemouth is confident enough to pay an up-front fee while Buck was a loan with an option to purchase.

You can’t go off-topic if you never get on-topic in the first place. I do love that one guy tries to say something relevant and gets completely ignored. A board after my own heart.
Bournemouth announce signing of USA starlet Matia Akinmboni - Yahoo Sports The fee is undisclosed, though DCU confirmed that they have a sell-on clause inserted plus potential future add-ons should he prove a success.
Good for him. I'm sure his pops is proud. I ran into him (the dad) a couple of times at a local African spot I frequent here in Maryland (Swahili Village) just a few weeks after he signed with DC United in 2022. I only struck up a conversation because he was at the lounge/bar with a Akinmboni jersey on, which I found odd that he would have for a 15-year-old newly signed player. Nice guy. Anyway, I hope that all turns out well for him.
He's on the bench today for their FA Cup draw. How was he able to get a work permit so quickly? Are the requirements and threshold that loose these days?
https://www.espn.com/soccer/lineups/_/gameId/724012 Made the bench for Bournemouth's FA cup third round match vs. West Brom. Adams starts. Still too soon for Dike
Any word on potential loan destinations or if he will he play with the 23s? I would think a loan to league one or something would be good, but that could potential be a disaster. Bournemouth has some other clubs in their network, so maybe they'll send him abroad. That would seem more likely to be a situation, but I don't know what options are there.
