Colette Cunningham had 2 assists in 12 games. Shannon Presley had 1 shot in 4 games. Lindsay Kennedy played in 3 games with no stats. No woman has scored a goal in an indoor game.
The Blast had a press conference to announce the return of Pat Healy , & the Signing of Daniel Peruzzi, Josh schaub was at that meeting. He was here to meet with potential new investors for expansion teams. The word around Baltimore has been the same Atlanta, Florida, Rochester , Toronto, Rochester has people interested , However Soccer Sam will not own it. Its a lot of talk and nothing is concrete. When It some time to actually cut a check to the League then you will see who is really interested.
I found 39 instances in the NPSL (post-1990) where a team played three games on three consecutive days on the road. (I am certain there were more instances where a team played at least one of those games at home, but I will look for that later.) Clubs playing 3-in-3 on the road lost all three games nine times, went 1-2 17 times, went 2-1 10 times and went 3-0 just three times. Harrisburg won in Canton, Detroit and Dayton from 1/10 to 1/12/1992 Edmonton won in Buffalo, Cincinnati and Detroit from 3/14 to 3/16/1997 Milwaukee won in Detroit, Wichita and Kansas City from 3/23 to 3/25/2001 Oddly enough, the teams' record in the final game was the best, which is counter-intuitive but I have not looked at quality of opposition in this. Teams playing their third game on the road in three days went 19-20 (.487), while they went 15-24 (.384) in the middle games and just 12-27 (.308) in the first games. Wichita went 3-in-3 on the road nine times from 1993-1999. Edmonton did it six times. It is not at all surprising that El Paso - a bad team - would have lost all three this weekend. It is a rough stretch.
As I was curious and looked it up, I thought I would share. 1991-1992 Harrisburg Heat season record - 24-16 (.600) 1996-1997 Edmonton Drillers season record - 21-19 (.525) 2000-2001 Milwaukee Wave season record - 24-16 (.600) None of these teams were absolute dynamos (no pun intended to Dayton) but were at least respectable during the season that they pulled off this feat.
Kenn: Under Paxos the schedule was often set up so that weaker teams would be the opponent on the third day, theoretically giving the weaker home team a chance to pick up a win, which was always a priority in the NPSL, which loved wins by the home team.
Fun facts: Of the 39 scheduled home teams in the third games of these sets, 27 had made the playoffs the previous year (69%) with a cumulative record of 799-729 (.523). Those 39 teams were 769-807 (.488) overall in the seasons in question and, obviously, only 20-19 in the actual third games (.513). Meaning they were 749-788 in other games. The boost (.026) equated to about one win in the (normal) 40-game schedule.
You can bet your ass he was not just here to announce the return of Pat Healy. You can say whatever you want but Ed Hale was correct. Now Schaub is meeting with the potential new team owners along with Ed Hale. I am sure you will do a story on your blog to talk about just how bad things have been this year with the league . Don't forget to include how bad ED Hales Business plan is for indoor soccer.
I don't have a blog. This year has been great. Ed has been neutralized and things have never run so smoothly in the league office. Hiring Josh while Ed was away was a great move.
I guess they weren't all road games because they aren't on your list, but right after the Spirit hired Mike Stankovic to replace Dave MacWilliams I remember them sweeping two three-in-threes in a short period of time.
Yep. 2/23-2/25/1996 and 3/1-3/3/1996. At Canton, vs. Canton, at Buffalo and vs. Cleveland, vs. Cincinnati and at Cleveland.
6 wins in 10 days is pretty efficient! It didn't last that long but I've never seen a team play with their hair on fire like the first 10 games or so under Stankovic.
I don't remember exactly which year it was, but the Kansas City Attack had a season in the 90s where they seemed to be shot from a cannon like you mentioned above. It also created a lot of buzz and at least I imagined it was going to take off again like the original MISL. I really liked those NPSL Attack teams. Don Kincaid did many things right and were unique. Maybe not enough, but it was a fun run.
