Try user "bigsoccer" and password "bigsoccer". Then you can see the article.

I hope this death doesn't freak out Landon too much.

LD took the injury pretty hard...at the last WCQ in Kingston, Marvin was there and LD went out of his way to greet him and give him a jersey...you could see that LD was struggling....

    what a shame...:(

:( No rip on Donovan, but I hope this wakes up the cheap shot artists in sports....all sports. It doesn't take much. The guys that feel the need to under-cut the guy leaping for a header, the saftey that hits an unsuspecting receiver, full bore, on a wildly over thrown pass or the flamethrowing pitchers that head hunt....it's just a game, the lives are real.

I can't imagine how hard that was. Did anyone see the collision that injured him? Was it a brutal collision or just a freak thing?

This is really hard. I woul also like to see the tape. It must have been really hard if it caused that much injury. I think it might not have been the collision with LD the cause the injury but rather when he fell and hit the ground. That is way I want to see the tape though becuase I don't know. My prayers go out to the family. Maybe this will spread some compassion in this sport. A lot of people don't realize that soccer is a very extreme sport at times. We don't wear padding like Football players or helmets like baseball players.

I don't really want to see the collision, that's a bit morbid for my taste, i'd just like to hear how it occurred. You don't neccessarily have to hit hard when it involves spinal cord injury, that's whats so scary about it. :(

There's a long thread at the USA Men forum where there's more info about what happened.

I got this from the USMNT thread: I've talked to people who were at that game where the kid got hurt and on the play in question, Donovan is going up for a ball and Lee comes in at an angle and undercuts Landon and then lands awkwardly. It's really ugly and the fall was just brutal.

It also says that Donovan got a cracked rib in the collision. Both were stretchered off. Donovan to come back on to the pitch and Marvin to ride the ambulance to the hospital with a neck brace on.

It was the injury Donovan was suffering from when he first came to the Quakes.

Hey, look at it this way, God needed a good defender and Marvin got the ultimate "call-up". RIP

That is a good way to look at it, but still he was way too young to go.
