I know there were issues with Rosario Central and the AFA with getting Rivero's transfer complete, but I am curious as to the long term status of him with the team. I believe he is "on loan" from Rosario, for what...two seasons or something like that. After that time with an option to "buy"? Does that mean CO has a final say in him staying or not? Or does it mean that Rosario Central can call him back sooner than the loan period and not have to sell him. Or am I completely off base? I found this article (dated April 6, 2012): http://www.sinmordaza.com/noticia/128891-central-demandara-a-martin-rivero.html and with my limited Spanish was able to discern much dissatisfaction on the part of Rosario Central with this transfer and with $, but perhaps with other issues between the lines that I cannot extraxt. Any insight or those with great Spanish skills?
A lot of it depends on the wording of the specific loan agreement, as sometimes they'll have a "call back" clause in them and sometimes they won't. Same thing with an option to buy clause, there may be additional requriements we're not aware of. That said, given MLS's past history with loans and the fact that Rosario Central tried to screw MLS (which remember, holds all the contracts not the teams) in the original signing of Rivero and then it was changed to a loan, I'm willing to bet the loan contract offered to Rosario for them to "save face" was pretty cut and dried. My guess is that there's no callback clause and no additional clause on the option to buy that gives anyone but MLS the power to make the decision. I would assume at this point that Rosario Central has no power over Rivero, they might get a token amount of money out of MLS if we buy Rivero and that's it.
I think Jason and I took opposite views of this earlier. I also in uncomfortable with this loan situation and hopeful that MLS has contract language FIFA will support if any funny business happens. But we will never know, thats just how MLS works. However, I will believe Rivero is truly a Rapid when contract is in fact bought out, hopefully before this season ends. I really think if something were to happen, it will go on in this upcoming offseason.
Thanks. That makes sense since you wouldn't want to integrate such a player into the starting 11, I guess, if he were at risk of being called back. I also read (can't remember where) that he is working to bring his girlfriend and child to CO, which sounds like more long term thinking. He is young so I hope he can prove worth for the team and stick around.
Yes, but I was wondering/questioning if there were also a clause or option for Rosario Central to not sell him. But perhaps the presence of the "buy" clause negates anything like that.
