Kortrijk vs Standard 18 Aug 12:30 EST Not on ESPN + Five points from the first three matches has been a great start to the season for Standard. This match could get them more points. These two team are actually pretty close after three matches. Fossey should start.
25 Aug Standard vs Beerschot 10:00 AM EST Not on ESPN + Fossey should start and Standard needs to get something out of this match. Beerschot is not good, has a -6 goal differential and has already allowed 11 goals on the season. The question is can Standard score.
1827806982255894671 is not a valid tweet id Marlon Fossey and Standard Liège have only conceded one goal through the first five games of the season, making the former USYNT defender part of the best defense in Belgium. He should be in consideration for a USMNT call up this upcoming camp, especially with Dest injured Agreed....curious to see how he migh look for nats as well
Correct, but despite flaws, the Juipler League is 8th in UEFA Coefficient Rankings. Reynolds left FC Dallas and has found, after fighting and hard work, a starting spot on a descent Belgian League Team. Is it perfect, is there still room for him to grow? Yes. But Westerlo has become a good landing spot for YA's to move over and move up.
mckenzie didnt start right away either i agree,.....its a good league for yanks and im glad they seem to be scouting MLS
Fossey is quite active in the highlights, plus you can see why despite their solid start, the defense can seem a bit worrying at times. He has developed into a pretty good ball progressor, and can deliver a solid cross. This year, and as last season progressed he became more of an winger instead of a defender. That is his better position. He had 68 touches, only the two Centerbacks had more touches than him.
31 Aug OHL vs Standard Liege 14:45 EST Not on ESPN + Fossey and company play against a team with a strong keeper, but not a really strong team. So they should be able to continue the league best defense, but who knows if they score.
Match finished 2-0. Fossey had on the of the talking points of the match, but not in a good way.1829980417639768187 is not a valid tweet id
Called up! Fossey gets the nod for upcoming USMNT friendlies with Robinson being rested. Always been a big fan of his aggressive play as a RB. He’s been on a run of good form lately so a well earned call up. Pretty good chance he gets minutes, too.
i love this callup and the rationale behind it whether it works out or not.....he's been doing well for a long time in Belgium now
Unless he actually gets onto the pitch for meaningful PT - at least 25 mins in both games and preferably 1 start - I'm unexcited about this callup: it's nice but not important. Not because of any fault of the lad's, but because it's not clear how a cup of coffee or two is going to help him with his biggest issue; getting the hell out of Dodge. Liege are an historic club with all that goes with it (big stadium, passionate fanbase, full trophy room, etc.) which has been incredibly badly managed over the last 25 years and has a recurring problem with late salary payments. With the US hosting, there's a lot more room to experiment and putting good players with poor club situations in the shop window is one of the few things an MNT coach can personally do to improve the quality of his squad. Think of what Klinsmann's callups did for a pre-injury Bobby Wood. If even Klinsmann could get that part right . . .
I think that is one of the reasons why I am optimistic for this call-up. Fossey has become a key player for Standard. More chances to get "in the window" to showcase what he can do will be good for his next move. Plus today he was selected to be the poster man for the new 3rd uniform.
With the amount of scouting and data analytics these days, getting a callup per se has a pretty limited impact on a player's marketability to other clubs. Doubly so when the callup is for friendlies against the might of (checks notes) Canada and New Zealand, There's a bit more when it comes to the short-term marketing to fans boost but not that much and then it really only applies to new guys for big side internationals like Brazil, Agentina, Germany, etc. Americans aren't in that bracket. It doesn't do any harm - the opposite in fact - but there's a real limit to the upside. Most of a callup's impact comes from teams, scouts, directors of football, agents, etc. paying more attention to him going forward. As I said, the callup is nice but the PT is more important. What will be really important is Pochettino's imprimatur. Poch continuing to include and especially play him, is an "I rate him. He can definitely do a job at this level" statement. That's a callup that will have a serious impact on his marketability. Berhalter? Not so much
He looks good for Standard in about half of the games. The moment he has a strong (as in physical strength) player on his side, though, he doesn't look that great. Last game Hamza (Leuven) didn't have much trouble getting past him. He's 25 already, 26 next week. I'm afraid this is as good as it gets for him, club-wise.
