    big up to Brooklyn
i know this is gonna piss you people off but, if Gio gets signed is he gonna take the #17 back from Marco Velez?

i mean, if you look at the metros roster at metrostars.com, Richie Williams took his #16 back from Ziadie after he lost it for a year, im just wondering if Gio will get his # back

i take pride in #'s on jerseys , even on my own

thanks alot, sorry if i annoyed you

He's the team's leading scorer.., even after 4 years. As much as I don't care for retiring numbers in this sport, I'm sure MFO will show him the respect and give him the same number if he wants it.

    and Piranas,
    Chill with the CAPS LOCK.

Probably, he deserves to pick his number since he leads the team's best scorer in their history.

    Off the # topic . . .

How good is this Marco Velez? Will he be a starter? Has anyone seen him play? He's the second Puertorriqueno I know of in MLS.

I dunno. Williams is wearing #16 in camp and Ziadie could have worn #20 last year if he wanted to. I'm not sure Gio who is wearing #25 currently, will get his number back. Roy Myers stints consisted of I believe #25, #24 and #17. But then again, he was no Gio Savarese.

Doesn't the current owner of the of the number decide if he wants to give it up????

most players will just change if someone is that attached to it.....

If Velez wants to keep his number, I would think its his to keep...

Who said Marco Velez has a number? The guy has to make the team first and if and when he does he will make it at the same time as Gio, meaning Gio will pick his number. I think Velez will just be happy to make the team at this point.

Ditto Jerzy, what's this "take it back", Velez hasn't even made the team. If he even has a number, it was probably just randomly picked from a box.

BrooklynG - why would this "piss people off"?

Velez is a good player, we had a great draft; can't wait to see this kid develop.

Never realized that Metro has only had 2 #10s in their history (Tab and Lothar)... and neither one was a "real" #10.

Who will be #10 this year? Or will we retire Tab's number along with a few pieces of his knee cartiledge for posterity?

I think Tab was a true #10 when he was on the field. That was a rare sight though.

Velez trained with the team in 2002. OZ saw something in him just like Bob...
Then again OZ also saw talent in Martin Klinger and Byron Alvarez (who BTW was our leading goalscorer last year in preseason).
