He might "look" good in anybody's uniform... but could he wear it proudly? If you could get him into a WIZ kit for a really small price... I wouldn't mind takin' a chance for one year.
I wouldn't mind him either, but he would have to come cheap, and realize he would be there for depth reasons only. We don't really need him, but he was one of those players that got me into soccer for the first time, way back in 94
I would vote no, simply because he is not likely to be able to play 90 minutes if needed. He might be able to help Nick Garcia though, from a mentoring standpoint. That would be a plus. James
I would say yes he could play in front of the back three and atleast be dangerous when he goes forward. Unlike some other guy we had.
The question here is, "Is Balboa better than Brunt?" If he is then take him. If he is not then let someone else take him. If they are about the same keep Brunt. The low price of Brunt plus the youth and speed will be better assets in the long run.
Given the current list of players supposedly out of contract I would rather take Carlos Llamosa who is coming off a World Cup. Granted either player might help for the right price.
No Balboa period. Even if him and Brunt are close, Brunt is young and could develope. Chello is just past his prime and looking for a couple more paychecks.
The chances of getting Balboa cheap are much better than getting Llamosa. Llamosa still has interest from Colombian clubs and a couple of MLS clubs (rumors: NY and DC). Even if he goes cheap, KC is not Llamosa's most likely destination. I haven't heard about any one interested in Balboa.
I'm just thinking that all our defenders are still pretty young (with the exception of Gutierrez). Maybe they could benefit from some veteran leadership.
If they go with Wolfe and Simu up front Balboa could really be a help on set pieces since he gives good head.
Balboa did have a better international strike rate than Cobi Jones. Garcia, if he continues to impress, could be gone for stretches this summer with the National Team. Hopefully Burciaga will be back and red. It probably comes down to price and desire for Balboa. He likely could make more in the A-League this summer. Charleston anyone?
like grandpa says getting old sucks. period. to me and many others he is the second guy to ever do a bicycle. (not much soccer exposure in da nort woods, football town, no real football town that is mayville wi) anyways a fallen leader is always tuff to see, either way i hope he gracefully accepts whatever he chooses. teaching in the a-league, or rekindling his flame for one more mls season. i would prefer the later and in a wiz jersey. WB
-Actually, I was more interested in the fact that they didn't retain Ross Paule. IMO, he's still a great player for working the sidelines. I'm not so sure that KC is in "need" of that kind of player at this point, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have him on the bench in case of an injury or whatever.
Would be nice to see Ross Paule at KC... He's good buddies with Carey Talley from high school and they would play well together...
I turn 59 next week. It's hell getting old, but it beats the alternatives. Having two teenagers helps keep me young. It may also be driving me over the edge.
I'm not the oldest one here, thanks IASocFan! I've got one turning 16 in April. I vote for over the edge.
I say sign him. With Balboa and Preki both on the team, the senior citizen discounts on airline flights alone will offset the cost of his contract.
