Well, after feeling pretty down about the team following Monday's drubbing, I found this article by Connolly a nice pickmeup. http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/oped0312connolly.html?gamename=03082003_CLBDC&version=recap The DC stuff is in the 442 towards the end.
Connolly at heart is one of us soccer nerds. He is even buying a Cowbell T-shirt. I was very glad to hear those DC comments when he was on Dyson's Soccer Show last Monday from 6 to 7 at http://www.WUST1120.com (where you can listen to a recording of the show, if you're interested). Just remember, it's Marc with a C! GM
Isn't anyone else a little concerned that their attitude is a little too loose? I mean, they just got their arses handed to them in consecutive games and there still prancing around like nothing happened? I'd be a little ticked off myself that we continue to go down 4-0 at the half.. Maybe it's just me....
It's the preseason. Remember, the one time we won the preseason trophy was in 2000 - and we had a miserable season. Our team is filled with veterans - guys who have played at the MLS level (or higher) for a long time. Our pros know when to expend a lot of energy and when not to. Furthermore, these are experimental games, much like the USMNT's games right now, and they mean nothing. Win or lose, I'm not putting any stock in any games that don't count in the standings. Not with this group of players, anyway.
It's just you. What gocaps said. Preseason games are no way to judge a team's performance over the duration of a season. I'd like to think sport's history has taught us that.
