To that Euro snob in one of the papers today saying that this game would be different from a Fire game. What are you talking about. I saw the same bad passes and weak shots I've seen at Fire games. The one thing I did notice when a Manu player made a bad pass to a wide open teammate the manu fans let him know they weren't happy.
Got there early saw the millenum park and went to the Adler planitarium so had no trouble with traffic.

It was a terrible game. People were overcharged for lack of quality - Nuff said.

    "It was a bad match."
-- Georgio Chinaglia on FSW, so, gee, it must be true.

About 5 times the number of spectators at Soldier Field today, compared to the average MLS match -- and well below the entertainment level of the average MLS match. When will they ever learn? And just to show I'm not a complete MLS homer, I give props to Celtic-Chelsea for a hard-fought, entertaining match under torrid conditions in Seattle. By all means, see what Europe chooses to offer us on these tours, but don't ignore the game at home.

Those of us who support MLS are waiting for the rest of you to grow up, and show-up for what is blooming in your own back yard. It isn't all weeds, folks, we are starting to come up roses.

    HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE

We all got completely ripped off. $35 parking to see that crap. Ferguson can bite me!!! He's got unlimited subs but does he bother to put any of the big names on the field (out of the few that even made the trip)???

It's his team and he can do what ever he wants to get them prepared for the upcoming season but if they are going to charge that much money for tickets, at least let all the starters make an appearance in the game.

Both teams were totally dissappointing. Bayern Munich certainly didn't look like the class of the Bundesliga today. At least they put Ballack, Makaay and monkey boy (Kahn) on the field.

ChampionsWorld and the Chicago Park District totally ripped off Chicago's football fans.

    What a joke!

I feel bad for anyone who paid big money to watch that pile of horse manure today. genuinely sorry. The Fire may be crap right now but the game saturday was a hell of a lot more interesting than whatever that was that took place this afternoon. I'm hardly anti-euro, here. Just that anyone from chicago who will pay 40 dollars a ticket and 35 dollars for parking for whatever took place at Soldier Field today won't shell out 15 for a fire ticket because of suppposed 'quality' I genuinely feel bad for. Even the atmosphere wasn't all that good.

When th biggest cheer is for a penalty shootout being announced there's issues. Better to leave it at 0-0 and the rightful jeering and boos that came with it.

It only cost me $45 to see a Man U reserve match (took the L to avoid the parking). I guess that's cheaper than a $500 plane ticket plus hotels. It was fun to watch Spector in the jersey. He looked like he belonged out there. I think he's probably got another 1-2 years before he's ready for everyday EPL play, but I liked what I saw.

what a joke. I can't believe I paid money for that.

Most Fire games were better and ALLLLLLL MFL exhibition games I've seen at Soldier Field have been better.

What I also don't understand is why on Earth am I watching the replay on FSW right now? As if it wasn't bad enough the first time...

Disappointing game, though the United kids were certainly better than their rivals from Bavaria.

Spector looked good, Bellion is still a waste. Alan Smith was all over the place...probably would have fared better with Scholes and Giggs on the pitch.

Bayern outshot Man U. 14-5. Man U. was held without a shot for the first 37 minutes of the second half.

    I'm gonna humbly disagree.

That was crap. I watched it on television for free and I am still pissed. Last year I spent in excess of $2,000 to go to the game in Philadelphia and New York. Glad I didn't do that again. But I do feel bad for the people who did because not just people from Chicago went to that game. At least the ones last year were entertaining. Man Utd along with Juventus and Barcelona brought their stars. The only regular Man Utd started today was Roy Keane. Champions World along with Man Utd should be ashamed for promoting the best players, the best competition in Europe after that.

Which is why I am quite happy I found a lot by the Grant Park Hotel that was charging only $8.

Did Man U complete one cross today?

How crappy was that? I was loving it when the crowd was showing its disenchantment with the game...and then....PKs! everyone when ape sheet. What a rip. That game was embarassing.

I flipped over from the Copa America final and thought I was watching a replay of the Rapids/Crew game from yesterday. Talk about a ripoff. All of those poor suckers who paid big money to see that dud could have just stayed home and watched a truly great match on TV. :(

Well said. I completly agree. That was a crappy match. It pisses me off when you see people fill the stadium for these friendlies and they ignore MLS. MLS is an entertaing league. And most of all,it's our league. Kudos to all MLS fan's.

All I know is the fans lost and hopefully that means Man Utd, Bayern Munich, and ChampionsWorld will lose in the long run despite all the money they made.

Man, I was excited to get on Big Soccer tonight to read all about the big match played at our home pitch this afternoon. I had to pass on getting tickets for the game because I had to entertain the in-laws and their kids. Actually spent the day (9AM - 4PM) at the Field Museum and watched from a distance of where I could've been.

After reading several posts on BS, I'm damn glad I didn't buy any tickets. I thought a big time match up like today's would possibly be good for soccer here in Chicago; however, I'm gathering that the product on the field was far from good.

I agree with some of the posters here that people should stop being snobs about only supporting euro-soccer and start supporting the local club. I've had season tickets for several years and I find the atmosphere and quality of play to be pretty darn good. Yes I'm a Barnburner, and a Section 8er, but it seems like the mediocre product the Fire has offered so far this season was better than the second rate euro sides offered today. It would have been a much different story if both squads started their 1st lines I'm sure, but they didn't.

For all the so-called "soccer" families I saw in the museum and on the streets around the park, wearing Man U jerseys and t-shirts . . . SUPPORT THE FIRE AND MLS, IT'S REAL SOCCER GROWN RIGHT HERE. And apparently a much better bang for the buck too!

Sure the soccer in Enlgand and Germany is among the best, unfortunately, you have to travel all the way to those countries to experience it. People who paid the prices they did today for the product they saw on the pitch are like the poor saps who pay for tickets at regular season prices to watch a pre-season NFL game . . . both events are a complete waste of time.

Sorry that you guys got ripped off.

Yes! I agree 100%. I am currently arguing with a guy from Maryland who suggests I go to England to see Man Utd play. Why would I do that? Why would he do that? You can watch world-class soccer in your own backyard. Fvck Euro-trash Americans.

There is no need to be anti-europe. Many people prefer european soccer. That's fine and withing their right.

My only point is if I lived in Mexico or Sweden or Japan or South Africa, I'd at least go see the local team ONCE a year, whether I still preferred the Fire and Madrid and followed them extensively or not.

People who have given the club a fair chance and didn't like it - also not an issue with me. It's simply the ones who refuse to who irk me because it's beneath them. CW is not evil, no more so than any other sports promoter. Neither are the clubs for rightly scooping up the money because people will pay it.Nor are the true hardcore fans of either of these clubs who travel to follow their team. It's just the local, neutral, folks who will think nothing of plunking down 500 dollars for 4 tickets and parking to a mediocre exhibition but won't come to even a Fire playoff game.

It's hard to be mad, and I guess I'm not really. I seriously just genuinely feel bad for those people who really, truly believe what they saw this afternoon was so much better than what you can see every weekend for a lot less. They're really missing out.

It was a garbage game. I'm glad I didn't pay $35 for parking; parked at McCormic place.

When I saw the US/Poland game, which was amazing, I kept thinking to myself, this will be nothing compared to the ManU/Bayern game. Boy was I wrong! Not only was the game horrible, but the crowd was dead. Hell I sat in the ManU supporters section, and it wasn't that great.

The whole day would have been a waste had I not gotten the free Bayern jersey! Did anyone else see that?!? They threw out hundreds of jerseys, perhaps even a thousand; I couldn't believe my eyes. Talk about having money and selling your teams name!

So at least the free jersey offset the price of the ticket for the lousy game.

That was criminal. I cannot adequately describe how horrible that was. Someone should have to go to jail for screwing 60,000 people out of a day, or a weekend, and a lot of money. Truly classless display by both teams.

But would you go to Mexican League baseball games? If you would then good for you because I know I wouldn't, and I love baseball. Now if the White Sox (or even the Cubs) played an exhibition game in my town while I was there, I'd be there in a second.
