I assume any SSS will be in partnership with the RedStars, no?

And hopefully Fire II as well.

I’d go to the Fire II game today if it were in the city

    Playoffs!

I’m surprised there’s been no talk of them joining the Fire at the training facility. I would be surprised if the Red Stars joined the stadium plan.

Yes, it would be a mistake:
    For them.
    For the City
    For the League.

I expect that Fire II will play at a baby stadium at the Fire Academy/first team training site development.

  7. They want UIC, but it's up to UIC.

Before this article, I had not read that the Red Stars were pursuing their own stadium, only that they did not any part of a redeveloped Comisky Park.

That was the most interesting part of the article.

They play in the league of consistent big fumbles...so it follows.

  14. Joe's comment from today's Lugano press conference:
    "teachers need more money, . . ."

He or his people have been paying attention.

I was trying to let this go, really I was....but you provide *so* many opportunities to point out that how wildly off-base the shit you post is.

Sports teams are for profit businesses.

NSF is a wagon train of costs that are *so much higher* that TP/SG and there are so many hands already scooping out of the till *before* ours that there's no way, even with the bigger crowds, that the team is making more $$ now than if they'd stayed (especially given all the $$$ lit on fire to get out of the deal and every previous year in NSF).

Had Mansueto focused on a real home first, shit, we might have been *in* it this year.

Yes, his comments on "no public money" are great and exactly right.....but NSF is *absolutely* hindering us.

aww, well at least you tried little buddy, and despite your response serving as evidence that you failed, I am proud of you for owning up to your failures. One day maybe I can be as wonderfully self-aware and informative as you.

See, look at this incredible insight that only you could have provided to the thread - I would have never thought of it like that! I would probably say that they are more vanity project than for profit business, while the Sidley Attorneys referenced in this Wall Street Journal (which both sucks and knows more about business than me!) article argue that sports teams are more long term investments than vanity projects, so maybe the bottom line in any given year isn’t quite as important as increasing the value of your investment is, in which case where the team plays (beautiful downtown Chicago or a parking lot in some dull southwest suburb) probably has something to do with the businessman’s decision to move them. Probably - I don’t know. Maybe Mansueto just moved them to piss you off specifically. It’s a mystery!

Should be easy to find citations then.

Almost missed this one (probably missed some others!) - citation needed.

From the article is something called Coliseum online (in today's news thread).

    https://www.coliseum-online.com/soldier-field-second-fiddle-fire-hunt-new-home/

I have never seen this angle before.

    What a terrible looking stadium.
It looks awful from Lake Shore Drive, it looks awful from the ground, it looks awful from directly overhead, but this is just a terrible angle.
They did not remove the top layers of seat supports?
It is just on stilts. Sure we see the awfulness from the inside, but I have not seen this from the outside.
I guess I have not been it the edge of the South side in the second tier previously.
What a crap waste of $700,000,000.

A quote from the regurgitated information in the coliseum article stuck out to me...
Mansueto said at a presser introducing Gregg Berhalter as the team’s new Director of Football and Head Coach, “The warm Summer days and Fall days are really precious and we’d love to have as many of those days as possible but we often get conflicted out with the Bears and the concerts. We prefer not to have to play on the bookends when it’s cold in Chicago in the Winter, early Spring or late in the Fall.

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5865369/2024/10/23/mls-calendar-fall-spring/
    How would the schedule change?
With the changes, the MLS season would begin, like most European leagues, in early August. The first portion of the schedule would run through mid-December before taking a winter break, likely around five weeks long. The season would resume in early February and run through the spring, with MLS Cup in late May.

Seems NR & the League are not "on the same page" with Mansueto...with the exception that Playoffs, Leagues Cup and whatever other cash grab would be in the summer...but not be in Chicago...until GGG "builds a winner".

OH! Wait! That's why every MLS team needs their own stadium...no sharing means being able to generate revenue year round:rolleyes:

I thought the plan was to do Leagues Cup in Jan/Feb in Florida, Texas and California?

No clue if accurate, but this is what I could find...
    https://news.bet365.com/en-us/article/leagues-cup-all-you-need-to-know/2023070417093929234
Leagues Cup 2025 expected start date
The 2025 Leagues Cup is expected to start in late July 2025. The tournament has started in late July in each of the past two seasons.

The 2025 Leagues Cup Final is scheduled to be played in late August. The 2023 final was played on August 19, and the 2024 final was played on August 25.

Gotcha, yea, sounds more like an idea than a plan…and a bummer for Chicago…the ‘off season’ would be June & July:thumbsdown:

MLS is weighing different formats and timing for the Leagues Cup that would fit into this new calendar, including potentially playing the tournament in January and February with teams in pods in warmer-weather locales like California, Texas and Florida.

The league would also have to determine how the U.S. Open Cup and Canadian Championship fits into the new calendar, though MLS pulled back its participation in the Open Cup this season.

These issues could end up holding up the calendar switch.
