I really think Maniche should be a striker for Portugal.
We have plenty of decent midfielders already and he has the abilities:

    Excellent soccer sense

    Hard, accurate striker

    Good in the air

    Good anticipation and speed.

    Hard worker / determined

Why not, he scored two really nice goals at Euro and could have easily had a few more with some luck and probably led the team with shots on net and chances. Given our current talent pool at striker he would be an improvement. Why not put one of their best and most talented player at their weekest position, we can easily fill his void at midfield. Maybe this is crazy, but there are very few options for portugal at striker as some of their promising young players are far from being ready.

He was a attacking midfielder when he was younger but no way he can be a striker.

It's difficult for a midfielder to make the transition to striker and I don't think Maniche could pull it off. It's obvious that Portugal badly needs a bonafide striker, but Maniche is not a striker.

The only midfielder Portugal has that I can see playing that postion is C. Ronaldo but I think it would be foolish to move him there.

Hopefully Postiga or someone like Hugo Almeida can develop into something special. Nuno Gomes is decent but not a game breaker.

I believe Quaresma should be a striker... he doesn't like to pass and has a good eye for goal... but he would have to work on his heading but I think it would suit him very well...

It's a possibility. He's a bit too selfish to be a good playmaker and he's young enough to make the move but again why would he?

Quaresma is having enough problems finding consistency at his current position, so going to striker may destroy his confidence even more. I'm not sure about his striking accuracy or heading, as I really haven't seen it. That being said, he probably wouldn't be any worse than what we've got right now with Gomes and Pauletta.

I guess I'm on my own as far as Maniche for striker.

The one player I can see taking on more of an offensive roll, although not as a striker, is Miguel from Benfica. He has a good shot and lots of speed down the wing.

He was a winger before Chalana converted him into a right back.

I think right back limits his ability. Just watching him play, you can see he likes the offensive part of the game.

Yes, I'm just waiting until we are a little bit closer. I haven't heard or read much about the teams outside the big 3.
