www.ussocceruk.com is reporting that the mutts will be playing the red devils on their world tour next year. I haven't read anything anywhere else on this subject except BSers wishing, hoping, and praying. Any official word from Metroland?

I have no info, but Giants stadium seems like the most logical stop on an American tour. Hopefully they can play our national team instead of the Metros.

I read somewhere that the settlement between NJS(hah!)EA and MLS clears the way for the Metros to face Man U. Here's hoping it comes through. And for once, I'd be rooting for the Metros to win

Since Man Utd are offering a prize to see them play in New York (And before I get the complaints, I know its New Jersey) it looks like it is on. Might even come over myself for that one. Whould ESC let me into 101 in a united away shirt at the game?

I'll be there...but we'll lose. Surprisingly. More an opportunity to yell at the ManU "fans" than anything else, which I'd certainly be up for.

I printed out that page for a Brit I work with. I mentioned that he won't be able to sit with me in 101. His grinning reponse, "Man U will kick their asses.."
My reponse to him was, "Well, at least the Metros can beat Bayern-Munich"

    USsoccerUK, gotta love it.

The headline says: "MetroStar heading abroad"
The byline says: "MetroStar in international action this week"
The story says: "Noises that the MetroStars will indeed face Manchester United at Giants Stadium when the English team head over for their 2003 US tour"

Paging USsoccerUK's proofreader... Paging... Oh wait.

    ManU vs. Metros??

Go to Charlie's website http://www.championsworld.com/ and vote for who you want as ManU's opponent (good luck trying to vote for Metro).

sorry, but i'd rather see celtic play man yoo. i don't want the metros palying them b/c it will be a game where the majority of people will be cheering for the visiting team.

btw, as of 10:20am 10.29.02 the voting has
    celtic 77%
    US Nats 10%
    Real 7.5%
    Inter & Brazil 1.4%

    over 30,000 voted.

    metrostars aren't even listed.

I'm surprised Charlie's other project, The Cosmos create-a-team, isn't listed.

Anyone who is genuinely dissapointed that the Metros aren't one of the teams listed should flood Stillitano with calls, e-mails or letters. He's made a lot of money off the MetroStars fans the past few years, so you have a right to bitch:

You honestly would rather watch Metro get their asses kicked than have United play a quality opponent in a more competitive match?

Does anyone believe that ManU(re)'s opponent will be decided via a web poll?

If the Metros are serious about having success in the league the question is should they be playing in midseason exhibitions. I think the answer is no. Let's focus on doing well in the regular season and making the playoffs before we risk exhaustion and injury in meaningless games.

If the organizers of this tour are considering having Man. U play the Metros -- and it doesn't appear they are -- hopefully Bradley will have the ability to say no.

The only exception to the above would be if MLS takes some breaks during the season, which I believe is something they are considering next year.

    no.

if they play any of those teams, they will draw a great crowd, so it really doesn't matter.

Don't out on Manchester United playing any games at Giants Stadium next summer. With Astro-Turf(fieldTurf) returing to The swamp next year, Manchester will likely prohibit it's millionare players from playing on plastic. Look for the game to be moved to either Rutgers Stadium(holds 45K) or Shea Stadium.
