Berba has gone into Rooney of last year mode. Complete and total #9. Rooney's assist numbers dropped off dramatically last season as well.

On the flip side Rooney, somehow has 7 (Prem website list him with 10), assist in 15 matches. Nani has 12 in 20. Not bad considering how out of form he has been in.

Im not sure if we are on the same page as far as that example, but I assume he wasnt issued an assist because after the pass Rooney gave Berba, he still had some work to do.

From what little I've seen, Berbatov does a lot of his work on goal-scoring moves (in which he doesn't score), further away from the goal than other forwards. It would be interesting to see how many "second assists" or "third assists" Berbatov has tallied this season. For example, how many times has Berbatov taken down a ball with his back to goal and then played it wide to someone who crossed it to the goal-scorer.

Yeah, that was basically the reasoning for Anderson not getting that assist. Don't think it applies here. Berba had work, but not nearly to the same degree. Berba didn't suddenly take the ball and beat four men. I am not even sure we can say he beat one. Both Rooney and Vidic still had work on two of the goals from yesterday, and yet assist were still handed out.

I hate it when the standards for handing out fake assists are inconsistent.

Well from what I remember, Berbatov dribbled past one man, then another, then cut back on the 2nd guy and shot. So he beat two men, one of them twice.

As opposed to Vidic yesterday who only had to shoot, and then the Rooney goal, all he had to do was bring it down and shoot. Still a marvelous goal, but not as much work as Berbatov.

    19 - Berbatov

    15 - Hernandez

    Hmmm....

Can't see Berba ending the season as top scorer unless he can hit some doubles or more in the home games he gets.

A first season beyond our wildest dreams. I think it is safe to say that Cheech is a natural. He's the most natural mover in the box we've had since Ruud. He's got a bit of the devil in him too though, because like Saha, his range is wide. He won't stick to the CBs he'll hunt down space on the flanks if need be. I love the way he will make a run to the same spot a dozen times with 6 or 7 different angles.

Got to agree. What a pickup by Manchester United. I didn't think he would be this good, but his range of ability and movement fits perfectly with the United system and personnel.

I can't believe he's likely to top 20 goals in his first season in England. It is literally unbelievable.

Does the Community Shield count for goal total at the end of the year? I was under the impression that it didn't, CS being a pre-season game, but everywhere I see, Hernandez is noted as having 16 goals.

Is the CS an official goal?

    I'm hoping he finishes 15:20

15:25 would be monster, but that may be too much.

Sadly, Ronaldo and Messi's insanity will lead people away from Nani.

    Total assists:

    10/11 (thus far)

    Total

    16 - Nani

    10 – Giggs

    9 – Rooney

    ‘09/10

    Total

    14 - Giggs

    14 - Valencia

    12 – Nani

    08/09

    Total

    Giggs - 13 + 3

    Rooney - 12

    Berbatov - 8

    Ronaldo - 8 + 1

    Carrick – 6

    Nani - 2

    07/08

    Total

    Nani – 13

    Rooney - 11

    Giggs – 8

    Ronaldo - 6

    Tevez – 6

Giggs has 45(+3) assists over the last 4 seasons.
    Nani has 43
Rooney has 32. Last season as #9 really ruined his average

Ryan Giggs, at 37 yrs of age, is our most productive supplier over the last 4yrs.

For all the erratic moments, he's amazingly consistent when all's said and done.

    Thought DS quit the internet.

Nani's is more impressive. His first 2.5 seasons, he didn't do much of anything. (especially 1-2.5)

Thanks for the great work in this thread DS. I wonder if Cheech will finish ahead of Berbatov for team goals?

was thinking the same thing myself. he is in danger of losing this top scorer tag. i hope he reacts to it positively.
