Giggs and Rooney continue to look impressive in the goalscorer/assist charts.

A goal is a goal, but take away the penalty kicks and I think it becomes clear that, minute-for-minute, Owen is the most prolific player on the squad.

There's no wow about it. Credit to Rooney putting the pks away, but they've certainly padded his stats and papered over the cracks of some very spotty form from him this season.

And as we Carrick has shown us, PKs are so easy.

Like I said, credit to him, but he's also missed from the spot this year. It is no stretch to take away some shine from a goalscoring record when several penalties are included.

Rooney has 13 goals in 19 games..

Interestingly enough, today were his first two assists of the entire season!

I think that reflects worse on his team-mates than him, though.

Say what you will, but it's been a very productive season for him thus far in the role he's being asked to play.

I never knew OG's could be credited with an assist.

"We just joked in the dressing with Wayne that he made 3 assists today." - Berba on MUTV

Why would passes that force or cause O.G's not be included?

I just assumed, for it to be an assist, it had to be converted by your own teammate. But no complaints.

Infact, just remembered Giggs got the assist for Diaby's OG early.

Oh, based on the assists that have not been credited in the past, I can think of any number of reasons other than the initial it happened to be one of Rooney, Scholes or Giggs ;)

seriously shouldn't matter in this case because Park was destined to tap in.

The numbers are quite interesting by now.

Valencia's productivity is what you'd ask from a proper, conventional winger. Berbatov's goal return isn't so bad, if we're to take him as a SS.

Rooney is going great guns, despite his actual form (sans the last 120 mins of footy he's played) with him having 14 goals - all in the league, and 3 assists, which have all come in the last two games.

Numbers, eh? They can usually be tampered with to suit any argument. By numbers, Berbatov's season thus far isn't bad, per se. It's not good or great, no, but it's enough for him to justify his PT.

Rooney and Owen Goal are monsters.

I know people don't love Berba, but his mere presence seems to open up space for Rooney that are not available with Owen. Lazy or not, defenders have to respect his possible threat.

Also his health has been far from great this season.

Player Mins Goals per 90M Assts per 90M G&A per 90M
    Rooney 1635 0.77 0.17 0.94
    Giggs 1138 0.16 0.71 0.87
    Gibson 240 0.38 0.38 0.75
    Rafael 243 0.37 0.37 0.74
    Berbs 1072 0.50 0.17 0.67
    Owen 417 0.43 0.22 0.65
    Valencia 1463 0.31 0.31 0.62
    Nani 485 0.19 0.19 0.37
    Scholes 812 0.11 0.22 0.33
    Anderson 838 0.11 0.21 0.32
    Neville 323 - 0.28 0.28
    Fletcher 1362 0.20 0.07 0.26
    O'Shea 925 0.10 0.10 0.19
    Evra 1772 - 0.15 0.15
    Carrick 1265 0.14 - 0.14
    Vidic 1117 0.08 - 0.08

Had some free time so I did some work on the minutes played each game.
I was curious how productive Owen had been considering his playing time is scattered across so many games and substitutions. So I totaled up the minutes played in each game so far, used this thread's goal and assist numbers to average them per minute played, then multiplied by 90 mins to give a hypothetical per game amount.

    Few comments:
    1. This is only for the league. I had some time but not that much time on my hands.
    2. I did not take into account extra time at HT or FT. not sure that would make that much difference but it might. I did take into account Red card time missed.
    3. Used DS's goals and direct assists.
    4. I took Rooney's PK's into account for these numbers. Excluded his line would be this:
Mins goals per X90 Assists per X90 G&A per 90
    Rooney 1635 0.55 0.17 0.72
This line is probably the more accurate line to show "production"
    5. Finally I realize that stats are stats and thus limited in telling the whole story, especially in this sport where there's quite a bit going on that does not involve putting the ball in the back of the net. (yes an understatement). On the other hand I do think it is worthwhile to look at these numbers and see if anything pops out as intriguing.

One tidbit is that Berbatov's ratios are about where Rooney's are if you exclude Rooney's PKs. Not sure i would have guessed that.

The other one thing that did strike me had nothing to with the goals.
Evra has missed only 28 mins of PL time this season. For a player who runs as much as he does that amazing to me. He has sat some Carling Cup games and some CL games but still that's a lot of minutes for him. It makes me wonder if his work rate/effectiveness will decline in the spring without some rest.

Apologies about the eye ruining format. Trust me it looks great on my spreadsheet. If anyone could help me true it up to columns, I'd be glad to edit it.

    Cheers.
