    How the goals were scored:

    Berbatov

    Header

vs. Bolton Wonderers(A) - Tevez battles his way through two tackles on the right side of the attacking third and pushes into the box. The ball is deftly dinked in the air for Berbatov who heads home.

    Left Foot

vs. Fulham(H) - Scholes plays an incisive 15 yard lob to O'Shea on the inside of the right flank; O'Shea miscontrols it but the deflection falls kindly to Berbatov across the box and is tapped home by the Bulgarian.

    Right Foot

vs. Aalborg[CL](A) - centre-back blunder leaves Berbatov open on the edge of the box. He half-volleys into the net with his right.

vs. Aalborg[CL](A) - Ronaldo crosses high from the right, Berbatov steps back and scissor kicks into the net with his right foot.

vs. West Bromwich Albion(H) - The ball fizzes across the box after a heavy deflection; Berbatov casually stretches out his right foot and half-volleys it home from a few yards out.

vs. Celtic[CL](H) - O'Shea flick; Berbatov deftly turns it goal-ward with the outside of his right foot. He was offside when he put it in the net.

vs. Tottenham Hotspur[FAC](H) - Carrick plays a first time high ball 25 yards upfield from the right-centre of the half-way line into Berbatov's path. The Bulgarian takes it out of the air and into his stride just outside the penalty box with his first touch and drives it low to the bottom left corner with his right foot.

vs. West Bromwich Albion(A) - Berbatov plays a perfect one-two with Carrick on the (right) edge of the box and slots home low and across the box from an awkward angle.

vs. Newcastle United(A) - Newcastle's (Steven Taylor's) blunder invites Park in as a failed chest back to their keeper leaves Park free and able to square to a gleeful Berbatov to tap home from a couple of yards out.

vs. Tottenham Hotspur(H) - Rooney is played into the left channel from there he plays a high cross into Berbotv who headers it straight at the keeper. The ball rebounds to Berbatov's feet at which point he lifts it to the inside of the left upright with his right foot.

vs. Blackburn Rovers[CC](H) - Tevez fouled in the box, penalty called, which he converts low and to the right, with his right.

vs. Blackburn Rovers[CC](H) - From just outside the centre circle: Anderson to Tevez to Anderson (in the box) to Tevez (low across the box) with Tevez stroking home with his right foot.

vs. Blackburn Rovers[CC](H) - Anderson plays a high pass from the middle of the pitch on the offensive-end of the centre circle out to the final third on the right, Tevez lashes it home with a cross-shot half-volley into the bottom left corner from about 20 yards out on the angle.

vs. Aalborg[CL](H) - After a smooth passing build-up Giggs lofts a pass into Tevez' path in the box, which is duely converted with the laces of the right boot , low and true into the net.

vs. Stoke City(A) - Berbatov controls the ball near the 6 yard box on the right side of the pitch and then tries to shoot to the bottom left corner, he miscues and the shot is played into Tevez' path; Tevez finishes from a few yards out with his right foot.

vs. Fulham[FAC](A) - Tevez breaks with the ball from left-centre of the centre-circle, he carries it about 15 yards whilst drifting to the middle of the pitch, from there, he unleashes a 20 yard drive with his right foot that curls away from the keeper and nestles in the top right corner of the net.

vs. Porto[CL](H) QF 1st leg - Rooney flicks the ball on to Tevez with the inside of his heel from a right-sided throw in; the Argentine scoops it high into the net at the near post after running across his man and sliding into the ball with his right foot.

vs. Manchester City(H) - The ball is played long (by Fletcher) inside the left offensive channel where Berbatov takes it down beautifully, sorts out his feet and then lays off on the inside to Tevez. Tevez takes two touches and then bends the ball to the left upright, it bounces in off the post confirming a brilliant team goal.

vs. Wigan Athletic(A) - Carrick attempts a shot from the right offensive third which is well on the way to going yards wide of the target, the ball fortuitously careers into Tevez's path. Tevez is facing away from goal when the ball gets to him but manages to skip over it and heel it into the net with his right foot with a mischievously impish finish.

    Left Foot

vs. Southampton[FAC](A) - Nani corner from the left side is met by O'Shea at the near post. Keeper palms the ball out into Welbeck's path who nods home from inches out.

    Right Foot

vs. Stoke City(H) - Welbeck takes the ball downfield from about 40 yards out, closes in on goal and shoots from 25-30 yards out with a screamer that is shot from off-centre right and ends up in the top right hand corner of the goal.

vs. Derby County[FAC](A) - Fletcher plays Welbeck in on the left side of the attacking third after great interplay in the middle. Welbeck bends the ball - Henry-esque - around the keeper into the bottom right corner with his right foot.

^^ Last season we had a ton of people asking how this or that goal was scored.. i.e left, right or head.

So this time round it'll be included in the 2nd post of this thread and updated accordingly.

    ---

I was going to ask the board whether you think we'll have the same woeful numbers from midfield in terms of goals this season as we did in the last one?

I'm a bit concerned about it myself personally because we haven't brought any in and what we had there last term was not particularly adept at helping the forwards out.

Believe that depends on how much starting time Anderson and Nani get. Nani is an assist machince and if Anderson can play more of a AM role, he should get his fair share as well. If Carrick is placed in that DM for good allowing either Scholes or Anderson to push up without reservation that could help the numbers as well.

I think the two central midfielders will have low numbers as long as Ronaldo is at the club.

Man, I don't know about goals from Anderson. just yet. The guy seems to be horrendous in front of goal and with his shooting.

I think Nani will again be our top assister, but he's got some way to go to improve his goal return. He got 4 goals last season and only 3 of those in the league and even that was enough for him to be our top scoring midfieder last season  :(

I meant assist for Anderson. Sorry I miss read your question. Hoping his pressure and skill will lead to some defense splitting passes. I still don't think he will be able to hit Stretford End with his shot.

As to Nani, I don't know if his goal tally can be to high. He seems only capable of fantastic goals from the top of the box and out for some reason. :p

Perhaps he will cut inside more this season and Evra will learn not to charge head first into the box every time he touches the ball, giving Nani that opportunity.

Goals from the midfield look set to remain as they were last season barring an evolution of Hargreaves/Carrick allowing Scholesy to spend more time higher up the field. The other thing might be that if Scholes/Giggs are rested/rotated a bit more we might see them both do more running in their limited minutes than they did last season which for Scholes at least, could lead to a goal or two more. Still, it looks bleak.

I'd pick Nani to lead us in scoring from the midfield with Giggs 2nd and the next most significant scoring contribution might just well be Fabio if he catches fire and gets a few games. That's how poor we are in terms of goals from midfield.

I havent seen a thread about our expectations about this season per se. So I will take the opprotunity to post this question / comment here.

If we can't "see" the goals coming from midfield then would you say that we are gooing to struggle in terms of scoring (and by extension struggle to dominate, retain and win trophies this season)? I guess the question really is what are the chances of ronaldo doing what he did last year or will Rooney/Tevez catch fire to help out in the scoring department.

Maybe I am a bit ahead of myself, but I would just like to start some constructive dialogue about how our season looks to the BS posters (not including hte doomsayers).

I think that we will have to rely (overrely) on our defense until we figure out the scoring situation; even more so than last year. I see more one nil victoires this season (assuming this new striker is not signed)

Oh and as far as DS question, yes the numbers are going to be as bad or maybe worse if we dont have a signing for the 9 spot (isnt Saha injured?). In fact I think they will be worse numbers tis go round.

My fear is this, while most teams have improved (slightly for most of them) we have not except that some of our players (Tevez ) may be in better shape. But that is blanced out by the nautal attrition that takes place dugin a season (Ronaldo being out for a bit through injury, Nani suspeneded etc). So while I think we are ahead of the pack in terms of the best team in the BPL the gap has shrunk a bit.

The positives is that as we saw last year we can play a variety of ways. We are very adaptable and that is why I believe we can still eke out vitories and be successful tis term. Too ealry for my predications but the truth is we have seen this type of "no number 9" situiation before and did fine.

Goals from midfield may not be up, but goals from the fullbacks will be way up with the Brazilian twins.

I believe he will be credited with the goal as it would have gone in even if the defender didn't touch it.

In spirit, sure, but show me a clip where he got the touch that sent it over the line...

it could even be argued that the first deflection of his touch guided it into the net.

Are you saying that the official Premier League site, both official club sites, the rest of the media, the official fantasy game and the bookies are all wrong?

I am not the: the official Premier League site, both official club sites, the rest of the media, the official fantasy game or the bookies, innit.

I think the dubious goals panel will amend the decision, by the way.
