Seems like it's a done deal. Four years. If it is, let's hope he's given what he needs and the sporting directors are either fired or told their on shaky ground if the next season doesn't pan out. Madrid didn't work out for him but given the way Madrid has been you need a UN delegation to handle that mess. 20 years ago if I saw this I'd be in disbelief. Just one of those things you can't picture but sport is weird that way. https://archive.is/de7NE And for reference on the title.
On paper a bloody good appointment - perhaps a little surprising too? I reckon Liverpool missed a trick here. NOW we start again again! I notice his job title has potentially changed from 'head coach' to 'manager'? If that's the case it's a good sign, if this is going to work the medical team and sporting directors need to bugger off and let him manage. Next item on the agenda is keeping hold of ALL of our 'good' players, the lack of European football will make getting good players to stay or come a little harder but generally I think the lack of European football is probably a good thing (considering the European football on offer was 2nd rate anyway), it means that we might have a chance to do a bit of a United and pull ourselves back 'up there'. I really hope we give him a bit of time!
He is a top manager and he has actually won trophies as a manager. Unlike. . . Marseca, Rosenior, Potter, etc.
That was quick. I was thinking Monday or something. Let's hope it works! Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Xabi Alonso as Manager of the Men’s Team. The Spaniard will begin his role on July 1, 2026, having agreed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Welcome to Chelsea, Xabi!— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) May 17, 2026
Every time we hire someone new,I saw let's give him time and wish him luck. I don't even want to pretend what this will be like with Alonso. I'm just glad he's starting with pre season .
It will be a very short preseason due to the world cup. But he will probably get free midweek chances to coach the team.
The weekly/yearly load of crap from ClownLakes 5 Directors: https://www.football.london/chelsea...ebc3e7de5ccad66b85b3dc8d7dd87a72bca1b334147e1 No mea culpa on who brought in Garnacho, Gittens, Lil' Liam, Delap for well over a 100 million while NJ and Madueke contributed well enough to Champions of England and Germany and other outcasts will be playing in the Campions League next season.
I’m happy with Xabi, but it’s funny Enzo M wasn’t good enough for us…but is good enough to succeed Pep?
It was the tedious side to side and back passing that did it for me, but it seems that's what the SDs want so changing the coach doesn't work
Mcfalane may not be as bad as lil' liam but he is shite at setting up a team, shite at tactics, shite at adjusting If clownlake had appointed a proper interim we might have been in at least Europa Can not way for the misery of the season to end and go Everton
and they score ohh well Conference League is the last thing we need going to be a costly goal if Brighton does not win
They did not want him involved, especially fearful of being on the spot if he succeeded, but if he made it clear it was only interim or they let him be on bench as the # 2, you can not convince me we would not be in Europa with JT, kind like Everton always pulled the Duncan Ferguson card when needed. McFarlane is a useless numpty who is a shill/spy and always blames the players, clownlake should not have made Alonso keep him on the staff.
Who knows, of course you could be right but just to be honest with you though personally I don't think so. Fact is they should have made a 'better' appointment after Maresca dropped us in it but hindsight is a wonderful thing. At least now (in theory) they have a proven capable man at the helm and without European football we have a better chance of becoming more than 'mid table' mediocrity. Just think we are now BELOW Sunderland, let alone Brighton or Brentford on the Premier League pecking order, we got to accept that before moving forward. Imagine Sunderland fans putting Chelsea at home as a 'should win' game next season..........that is the sad reality though. Do you remember the good old days when clubs like Brentford saw us as a team where a point would be considered a massive result for them! Now they 'expect' to pick up 3 points against us.
