Oliver Kahn's father has admitted that Manchester United are keen on signing the German international goalkeeper. Reports earlier this week claimed Kahn was pondering a move away from Bayern Munich, with Manchester United thought to be hoping to take him to England. Bayern Munich played down the rumours, but Kahn's father Rolf insists United are trying to bring him to Old Trafford. "Oliver has had offers from Manchester United in the past, but the contact has certainly intensified over the past few weeks," Kahn told German daily AZ. Bayern goalkeeping coach Sepp Maier revealed that Kahn was considering a move away to a new league after winning everything at the German giants. "He's deadly serious," Maier told German daily Tz. "He wants to move and the English league is calling him. He's already achieved everything with FC Bayern and that's why he's now looking for a new challenge." Howard made a blunder that cost us advancement to the Champions League semifinals. Kahn made a blunder that cost Germany a chance for World Cup glory. Howard is young and can learn from experience. Kahn is more experienced and shouldn't be making those kinds of blunders in big games. Plus, he's looked a bit average this season, IMO.
Howard still has a lot to learn and it could be that he could learn it from Kahn. He may be on his way down but he still knows what goalkeeping is all about. Whether Kahn would be happy with that role, though, I have my doubts.

Kahn would obviously be a nice addition to any squad, but I really don't think Tim Howard has been given enough of a chance to prove himself. One blunder, as costly as it was, shouldn't call for a replacement, especially for someone as young as Howard.

Matt, I have no idea what the hell that meant or why it's funny. Or if it's funny. I'm gathering you didn't get to watch the Bundesliga this year. Kahn sucked hard. Several better keepers in that league. Hell, in all honesty, based on his current form, he'd be #5 on the US depth chart. Johnny Walker is better. Roy Carroll is better (just so's I don't have the "Timmy lover" tag hanged around my neck.) In fact, he was so poor, I don't think he could start for England this summer!! Now, the question is, was it just a bad season from which he'll snap back, or is it the beginning of every athlete's slide into obsolecence. I don't know how you judge that before the fact, but if he snaps back into form, he's an expensive, moderate upgrade from Tim Howard, but probably only for a year, two at the most. If it's more than a slump, then ManU will be wasting money to drop points and hinder the development of their GK for the future. Sort of like making a mail bomb and sending it to yourself. I wouldn't do it. It's a Real Madrid move, not a Man U move. Unless somehow Man U can be relatively sure that last year was just a slump, the cost/benefit of this transfer sucks.
