Michael Laudrup has negociated the escape clause of his contract with Mallorca according to the various new sources. Obviously Serra Ferrer was not happy with his performance. On his way out he compared Serra Ferrer with Lopera saying the same thing the Serra Ferrer said when he left Betis which was "Mallorca will be whatever Serra Ferrer wants". Joaquin Caparros is being rumored as the next coach for Mallorca.
Grant Wahl @GrantWahl3h3 hours ago Kyle Martino & Stuart Holden have become investors in the ownership group of Spanish club Mallorca that includes Steve Nash & Robert Sarver.
ESPN+ will start carrying La Liga matches in 2021-2022 so I will get to watch my favorite league after a hiatus of around a decade. Wolverhampton Wolves striker Rafa Mir has expressed interest in joining Real Mallorca for next season. He scored 13 goals on-loan at SD Huesca in 38 league matches. It might be wishful thinking on Mir's part, but we can always hope.
RCD Mallorca are interested in Lazio winger Jony, who spent the season on loan at Osasuna. He assisted on 3 goals in his 24 appearances.
VfB Stuttgart will loan Pablo Maffeo to RCD Mallorca for the 2021-2022 season. Maffeo is a 23-year-old Spaniard who was loaned out in recent seasons to Girona and Huesca. Apparently, there is a clause that if Mallorca do not get relegated this season they must purchase Maffeo at the end of the season. He is a right back.
Former English star Daniel Sturridge has been invited to train with the RCD Mallorca squad during this pre-season. Interesting. https://punditarena.com/football/james-fenton/daniel-sturridge-training-mallorca/
Mallorca are still trying to land striker Simeon Nwankwo (Simy) from Italian side Crotone. They are in a fight with Tottenham over the transfer. He scored 64 goals for Crotone over 152 appearances which includes 20 goals in Serie A last season.
Week 1 RCD Mallorca - Real Betis Predicted starting lineup (4-1-4-1) from the web: Prats de Galaretta, Sevilla, Mboula, Rodriguez Baba Costa, Raillo, Valjent, Maffeo Reina
Season 2021-2022 Week 1 RCD Mallorca 1 - 1 Real Betis Starting lineup: Dani Rodriguez, Angel, Mboula De Galarreta, Idrissu Baba, Sevilla Olivan, Raillo, Valjent, Maffeo Reina First half Mallorca looked bright and had some good attacks especially down the right side with Maffeo and Mboula. Dani Rodriguez sent Olivan in on goal with an excellent through ball for the 1-0. In the second half, Real Betis took possession and created a few chances, but the typing goal was a cross to the far corner headed back into the box, but Reina palmed the ball into his own net for the own goal. The first point for the march to stay up this season.
Fernando Nino joins Mallorca from Villarreal. He is a 20-year-old striker, who scored 3 goals in 17 La Liga matches last season.
Week 2 Mallorca travel to Alaves for a Saturday match. Expected lineup same as last week (4-3-3): Dani Rodriguez, Angel Rodriguez, Mboula De Galarreta, Idrissu Baba, Sevilla Olivan, Raillo, Valjent, Maffeo Reina
Week 2: Alaves 0 - 1 Mallorca Starting lineup: Prats Dani Rodriguez, Take Kubo, Mboula de Galarreta, Idrissi Baba Olivan, Valjent, Russo, Maffeo Reina Mallorca looked the better side attacking and got the game winner from Fer Nino, who came on as a sub for Prats. Sevilla (also in as sub) sent a long ball over the top for Fer Nino to chip the goalkeeper. Tight defending kept the Alaves attack limited. One Alaves player sent off at 66' for second yellow. Four points from first two matches is a good sign for a promoted club.
Week 2: 1-1-0 4 points Goals - Assists Fer Nino 1 - 0 Olivan 1 - 0 Sevilla 0 - 1 Dani Rodriguez 0 - 1 Goals scored: 2 Goals conceded: 1 Clean sheets: 1
Week 3, Mallorca host Espanyol for the early Friday match. Expected lineup (4-2-3-1): Prats Dani Rodriguez, Kubo, Mboula Idrissu Baba, Battaglia Olivan, Valjent, Russo, Maffeo Reina Fer Nino scored the winner last week, and I can see him getting 20-30 minutes in this match also.
Fer Nino starts at striker position rather than Prats. Baba and Sevilla in central midfield, rather than Battaglia.
1-0 at the half. Dani Rodriguez volleyed in a poor clearance by an Espanyol defender to give RCD the lead.
Espanyol created more chances for themselves in the second half, but Mallorca hung on to gain all three points, 1-0. They are top of the table for a few hours at least. Week 3: 2-1-0 7 points Goals - Assists Dani Rodriguez 1 - 1 Fer Nino 1 - 0 Olivan 1 - 0 Sevilla 0 - 1 Goals scored: 3 Goals conceded: 1 Clean sheets: 2
Supposed wunderkid Kang-In Lee was released by Valencia, who terminated his contract. He just signed a 4-year deal with Mallorca on the free transfer. This will be interesting to watch.
RCD Mallorca have signed American striker Matthew Hoppe from Schalke who were relegated to 2.Bundesliga at the end of last season. Hoppe scored 6 goals in 22 appearances for Schalke.
Week 4: Athletic Bilbao - RCD Mallorca Starting lineup: Fer Nino Dani Rodriguez, Kubo, Mboula Baba, De Galaretta Olivan, Sedlar, Valjent, Maffeo Reina The American striker Matthew Hoppe makes the bench. Kang In-Lee doesn't make the bench.
After sticking with Athletic the first half, defensive lapses in the second cost them all the points in a 2-0 loss. It turns out Kang In-Lee was on the bench, and he got sub time along with Battaglia, Sastre, and Prats. Week 4: 2-1-1 7 points Goals - Assists Dani Rodriguez 1 - 1 Fer Nino 1 - 0 Olivan 1 - 0 Sevilla 0 - 1 Goals scored: 3 Goals conceded: 3 Clean sheets: 2
