If one of your player won the PLAYER OF WEEK in CL game, and a BEST 11 of the team, most fans will celebrate in other countries.
Okay that's in MOST other countries not in countries where those same fans are like "our players are overrated crap, worse than Canada and no better than New Zealand"
This is a message board. It is about as unrepresentative of reality as it could be. Most fans do celebrate American players’ successes because they are not invested in winning some prior argument. They haven’t painted themselves into a corner in front of an audience. Most fans are fans.
I definitely think most fans who follow PSV, or the USMNT, are excited that Tillman had a tour de force performance in CL. Maybe not throwing parades, but I do think they're excited, but we also have plenty of people who are "take lock" type, many people who are afraid guys will bust, and many who are hypers like me, and struggle not to get over their skis (like me).
One of the weirdest dynamics around here is full grown adults typing diatribes about players probably half their age, hoping to win never-ending internet arguments because they tied their family's legacy into an opinion on a soccer player and it must be defended at all costs. Mom I can't walk the dog right now! Someone online overrates a kid named Malik who plays ball in Holland and at 22 he's not as good as they think. I need to prove he's not deserving of a start in our next NT camp because they're being intellectually dishonest! His xG & xA /90 is roughly .24 less than acceptable vs the top 6 clubs in the Eredivisie. I think I'll finally win the debate with this one!
Well eventually you WILL type that perfect comment that wins the debate, unfortunately much like gamblers most internet poasters give up right before they are about to win big.
Maybe from the part of argument to wash out for GGG. Like 1) the referee sucks (game’s referee played against us, it is 12:10) 2) the field sucks 3) the game schedule sucks. 4) the players sucks. 5) the US fans sucks.
"That joke isn't funny anymore". I had a longer winded, tedious response, but I figured a Smith's quote was more appropriate.
Tillman did not have a strong window. And players like Reyna, Adams, de la Torre, and Johnny should be fit by the time of the Nations League Semifinals. Additionally, Paxten Aaronson has been playing very well in the Eredivisie.
Disagree. He was solid @ Jamaica and played as well as pretty much anyone else on that pitch. I'm not the only one who thinks so. I just looked up the first three results for player ratings, and he was rated 7.5, 7, and 6.5. Then he didn't play @ Home. Not sure what you're expecting or if you already had a pre-formed conclusion (like a few others with Musah).
I think he was a positive, especially as an unplanned sub in an unfavored position. However, I do think we saw where he stands with Poch and compared to what most thought going in he has lost ground. If Pulisic is going to be getting more AM minutes and Weah is hot and Musah has carved out a wide role that eats into his standing. He and Brendo might split time there as the backups. Tessmann being preferred at the pivot and Johnny lurking along with Adams makes that seem like an emergency option. As the 8 or 8/10 maybe he’s right there as Wes’s backup with Busio, especially if Yunus is wide. That’s before accounting for Gio or a new guy.
I said a few weeks ago (before his excellent CL match against Girona) that if everyone's healthy, I'm not sure that he has a spot in the squad. It sounds radical, but when you break it down, it really isn't. If everyone's healthy, he's one of the last inclusions or exclusions. Which isn't the worst thing in the world. Last cycle, those guys were more like Arriola, Morris, Roldan-level guys. Now it looks like it could be a guy like Tillman or Aaronson or LDLT who just makes/misses the cut if Poch's hand isn't forced by injury. (And, of course, this excludes the very real possibility of Tillman taking his entire game up a notch.)
He was solid: great. He was a sub the first match then got dnp'd the next. Continuing to excel in UCL and league will keep him in the mix. But he didn't do anything with the US to move up the US's pecking order. And if the team finally gets a run of good fitness, the comp for places will only get tougher.
