I have two documents on a floppy disk. When I attempt to open them, a rythmic clicking sound follows for several minutes, afterwhich a message box reads, "Word failed reading from this file. Please restore the network connection or replace the floppy disk and retry." I've tried this a couple of computers, each time with the same message. I think it's an error with the floppy disk itself. Any suggestions?

Have you tried copying the file(s) from the floppy to your hard drive first?

"Cannot copy file: Cannot read from the source file or disk."

Google for a floppy disk repair/salvage utility. There are numerous free tools out there (sorry, no names come to the top of my head).

The tools will use BIOS level routines to dump the disk sector by sector and try to reconstruct the disk directory and whatever data it can find. I successfully used one about 6 months ago to recover a student's data (M$Word files).

I found out what might be the problem. A few months ago, I reformatted my hardrive. When I reinstalled all of the applications and drivers, I found that Gateway hadn't included a hard copy of Works Suite 2002. I had to buy a Works Suite 2006, but since the documents were created using the '02, they aren't recognized. Thanks for the suggestions, repped.
