My wife and I will be in Andalucia for two weeks at the end of November, and would like to attend the Malaga match the weekend of Nov. 23. Any advice appreciated ... I'm assuming it won't be difficult to get walk-up tickets the day of the match, but any information would help a lot. We will probably be in Ronda on that weekend ... in Nerja earlier, but I believe we move to Ronda on Saturday ... will have rental car.

    Thanks!

Thanks, Pichi. I had checked out the website ... was hoping someone would wander in here who has been to La Rosaleda, with some hands-on advice. I suppose I could make a longer trip and check out Betis :). Of course, the match I'll really want to watch that day will be the Quakes winning MLS Cup, but I guess hanging out on the Costa del Sol will have to do.

Hell 2 out of 3 ain't bad at all, especially since the two are in Spain! Enjoy!! I still haven't figured out if I'm going to make the drive down I-5 if the quakes make the final!

Hey, you've come to the right place. I know they are doing a lot of work on the stadium right now (La Rosaleda) but you shouldn't have any problem getting tickets. They've changed the stadium a lot since I was there ('99-2000). It used to be terraced seating behind the goals, and you could get pretty cheap tickets for about 15-20 Euros (we were on pesetas then, but the conversion is about that much...). Now it's all seats, every single seat, no general admission.

I recommend going to the box office at the stadium or they also sell tickets in El Corte Ingles (huge department store, you can't miss it) in the center of town. For Osasuna-Malaga, you shouldn't have a hard time getting tickets, and if you want to spend 40-50 Euros, you could probably get some really good ones. But for a game between two of the smaller teams in Primera, you shouldn't have a tough time getting seats. Malaga only sells out their games for Real Madrid, Barca, and the derbis andaluces (Sevilla and Betis). I just recommend either buying your tickets during the week at Corte Ingles, or get to the stadium about 30 minutes before the game and buy tickets at the box office.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Good to hear that someone will be catching a Malaga game this year in the forum. I haven't seen them (live) in almost 3 years (sigh...)

By the way, they have a decent supporters group (Frente Bokeron) that leads some good chants during the match and sings the teams hymn at the beginning of matches. It's a great atmosphere and I think you'll enjoy the match. I loved being a fan there and if I had stayed there longer, I would have become a socio of the club and bought season tickets year round.

Here's a virtual tour of the stadium. http://www.malagacf.es/estadio/visita.php

Thanks, that's the info I was looking for. I want to wait until matchday, because there are other variables helping the decision to go or not. On Saturday, we'll be traveling from our first destination (Nerja) to our second (Ronda) ... I'm not sure the wife will be up for a trip back to Malaga for a match on Sunday. And there's always the possibility of bad weather, although I'm hoping late November isn't too awful for Andalucia, since we're going then no matter the weather!

Actually, you should know when the match will be early in the week and it's entirely possible that the game could be played on Saturday instead of Sunday. That doesn't always happen, but be aware that just because a game is scheduled for the weekend of the 23rd means that it could be played either Saturday or Sunday. I don't imagine that they will be playing on Saturday since neither team is playing in Europe, but Malaga and Zaragoza are playing on Saturday this week. And November in Andalucia is great! 300 days of sunshine during the year, you shouldn't worry too much, I would think you'll have great weather (50's and 60's, probably pushing 70 most days.)

If the game is on Saturday, you have the perfect opportunity to just breeze through Malaga on your way from Nerja to Ronda. The trip between Nerja and Ronda will probably take you between 2-2 1/2 hours, Nerja is about 45 minutes to an hour from Malaga and Ronda is about 1 hour to an 1 1/2 hours from Malaga.

If you want some great seafood on the way from Nerja to Malaga, go by El Tintero in El Palo on the very east side of Malaga, right on the beach. Very fun atmosphere where they just bring out plates of different seafood (yelling the name of the seafood as they walk by) and you just grab whatever you think looks good. Try Boquerones while you are there, the authentic fish of Malaga!

    OT by this point

    Thanks for the travel tips!

We stayed a night in Nerja back in 2000, and a week in Ronda ... my family on my father's side is from Ronda and Estepona. Glad to hear I can look forward to good weather ... you never know when you go in November, and when we were there before, it was July and VERY hot.

I always felt Nerja was an undiscovered gem. I love the beach there, lots of big rocks and little caves. If I make it back to Spain, I'll definitely spend a night or two in Nerja. Just a sleepy little beach town. Are you staying at the Balcon de Europa?

In Ronda, have you seen the Cuesta Magnetica? Basically, it's a road just outside of town that's an optical illusion. It looks like a steep hill, but it's actually a slight downhill grade (don't know why it looks like a steep hill, but it does.) You throw your car in neutral and coast up the hill. It's pretty weird and cool, but any cabbie in Ronda could take you to it.

    Enjoy your trip.
