Tonight is a big match for Malaga. Boavista visits La Rosaleda for the first leg of their quarterfinal in the UEFA Cup. The last two rounds of the competition, Malaga has tied 0-0 at home against their two opponents, Leeds and AEK Athens, only to win the away matches and move on in the competition. Hopefully, they can be a little more sure against a Boavista team that has performed well in Europe, but is in 9th position in the Portugese league and will be missing their striker due to suspension.

It should be an interesting match, but I believe whatever happens, Malaga will score tonight. From what I have read, they are more focused on ensuring that they have a lead going into the second leg in Oporto.

Goal to Malaga, minute 18. Dely Valdes on a pass from Dario Silva. The match has had a lot of action already, with Boavista threatening the Malaga goal, although Malaga seems to be controlling the ball.

Never mind, I think they just said the winner from Lazio - Besiktas would be their opponent

    Euro Malaga wins with 1-0

Only managed to hear how the 2nd half went, and it seems like Boavista had the better of the game in that half. Luckily Malaga seem to get better results in their away games in the UEFA Cup. :D

True, Malaga have been good away in the UEFA Cup. Actually, they are yet to lose in Europe, having either won or tied all of their games this year, going back to the start of the Intertoto.

Most impressive, I think, is their ability to shut out their opponents on their home field, La Rosaleda. With two forwards of quality like Dario Silva and Dely Valdes, I think Joaquin Peiro knows that Malaga will get their away goals, so they seem to concentrate on keeping a clean sheet during their home matches, which they have done. I believe they will need a goal in Oporto to assure their pass to the semifinals because I don't think they will be able to shut Boavista out, but we shall see.

It would be great for Malaga to play Lazio in the semifinals, a real event for the city of Malaga, although it will be by far, their most difficult test yet.

I am optimistic, but a game is still to be played in Oporto.

Second leg today, and everyone is healthy. This is going to be a tough one. Boavista shut down Hertha Berlin in the last round, winning 1-0 after losing 3-2 on the road and they will be very tough to get a goal on in Oporto, but Malaga is this close to the finals!! They day before they left, they worked in practice on set plays and penalties, in case the game ends 1-0 to Boavista.

I think Malaga can handle a few pesky Portuguese.

Malaga lost on penalties. A tough way to get eliminated. Dely Valdez had two very good chances near the end of the game to seal it for Malaga but he didn't score.

    I guess not.

Judging by the game reports it sounds like it was a very tough and entertaining game. Malaga were unlucky to go out on Penalties but Boavista seems to of had the better play during the match and in extra time.

    Thousands of malagueños blame you!!

Really, a tough way to lose, but it sounds as though Boavista did have the best of the play during the game, so they may have deserved to win, but Malaga had only 8 minutes until the end of the game, if they had only been able to hold out!!

Well, a good run in Europe is over, and now Malaga must concentrate on getting back into contention for European places in La Liga...
