After today's games we are tied for 5th place. The top four teams are all at 22 or 20 points and we, the next two, are at 18, so anything could happen.

The Courage at this point are in control of their own destiny, if they can keep it going, they will be in great shape. Go Blue Lions.

    For what it's worth,

Point total of the last playoff team from the last two years:

    2001- 31 (Phildelphia)
    2002- 34 (Atlanta)

My guess is that this year's "magic number" will be closer to the 2001 total, as the league is much more tightly compacted top to bottom this year (e.g., 16 points separated the top from the bottom in 2001; in 2002, the spread was 30 points). The rash of ties lately and subsequent loss of points will also contribute to the lower total needed to get in to the postseason.

So, at the current 18 points, I imagine 5 wins from the last 7 games will all but guarantee the playoffs. Not easy, but not impossible. A win this weekend over New York (stupid USWNT friendlies!) would help immensely, given the Power's position right above the Courage.
