For a #9, scoring goals has to be the most crucial aspect and I can't see how anyone wouldn't rank Gerd Müller first.
1) Gerd 'Der Bomber' Muller - His place is pretty much unquestionable. 2) Eusebio - He was a rare physical specimen that regularly won matches by himself. If not for his injury, he would of been much closer to Muller. 3) Ronaldo - O Fenemono of 96-98 was literally unbelievable. The fact that he racked up great numbers as a 'pure' striker after his 'problems' is a testament to his outstanding ability. 4) Romario - Simply for the fact that he scored so many goals in such a seemingly lazy way. He was pure brilliance. 5) Van Basten - One of the most complete #9 of all times. If not for his 'no show' at WC '90 and EC '92, he would of placed higher than Romario.
Ibra doesn't play as a 10, he's definetely a 9! For sure more than Henry or Romário who were both cited by other people here. Maybe he coul be a 9,5 but I think he's better put with 9s. My 9s, only those I watched playing, are Ronaldo (I don't consider Romário a 9), Batistuta and maybe Van Basten. these ones will become legends for the future.
If Romario is a number 10 in your eyes, then how is Ibra more of a number 9? If there was 9.5 category, Ibra would fit in there but he is definitely a number 10. Cruz, Crespo and Suazo are the number 9s at Inter and Ibra is the number 10. His type of game of a number 10 but like I said before, he has the scoring rate of a number 9.
[Sir Bobby Charlton wore the No.9 shirt because he lined-up as a so-called "deep-lying centre-forward" in a role that was based off of that played by Hungarian great Nador Hidegkuti & Alfredo di Stefano. As far as "card-carrying" No.9-type centre-forwards go, two big names have been missed IMO: England legend Tommy Lawton: http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/ARSENALlawton.htm http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/football_legends/11906.shtml http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/sherwoodtimes/lawton.htm http://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com/pages/fame/Inductees/tommylawton.htm the recently deceased Nat Lofthouse: http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/BOLTONlofthouse.htm http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...ays-tribute-to-'leader'-nat-lofthouse?cc=5901 http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/fourfo...atical-practical-genius-of-nat-lofthouse.aspx http://www.natlofthouse.co.uk/home/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/football_legends/11901.shtml I hope that you will find this information helpful...]
This thread is a bit MISLEADING. Is it a list of "actual wore" #9 shirt? or is it a list of players YOU THINK they are good as #9? ====List of actually (once) wore #9: - Brazil (Tostao, Carreca, Ronaldo, Adriano, Fabiano...) - Argetina (Di Stefano, Batistuta, Cruz, Crespo ...) - Portugal (Eusebio, Sao Pinto, C.Ronaldo) - England (Nat Loft House, Lawton, Shearer, Hoddle, Fowler, Rooney, crouch) - Italy (Inzaghi, Toni ) - Germany (Muller, O Neville..) - Holland (Cruijff, Basten, Kluivert, Nistlerooy ) - France (Cisse, Goyvu ..) - Spain (Butragueno, Torres..) - Mexico (H Sanchez, Borghetti) - Africa (Milla, Etoo, ..) - Other Europeans ... Ibra, Berbatov, Suker .....
