French midfielder Claude Makelele will be sold in December by Real Madrid, according to several Spanish newspapers. They argue that, when the transfer market reopens, the French international will be off-loaded because of his failure to agree on a new deal with his club.

Makelele was offered €1.5m per year, which fell well short of the 3m figure he asked. Makelele is unhappy that he is on low wages compared to major stars Raul, Zidane, Figo and Ronaldo, said to be on €6m per year.

That would be a major mistake by Real Madrid. Makelele is one of Madrid's most important players. He does the dirty work so Zidane, Raul, Figo, etc can attack.

I don't think Madrid will let Makelele go. I bet this story is just being sent by his agents to "stir up the pot".

Sorry, but I won't miss him. I hope they find soon someone who can do the dirty work and can, at the same time, pass the ball to a teammate.

I disagree dmar. While Makelele isn't going to rival Zidane as a passer he isn't that bad with the ball at his feet and his work in midfield is impressive in winning the ball. I still think Makelele is one of the keys to Real Madrid's success.

I disagree with your disagreement ;) He wins a lot of balls but he loses almost an equal number and he slows a lot the play. IMO, he's just an athlete, he can be replaces easily. But of course this is just my opinion.

He covers a lot of ground for you guys. You don't have a replacement for him on your roster. He helps your defense out a lot. Losing him and not getting a suitable replacement would be a big mistake for your team. A loaded team up front but it continues to get weaker at the back.

Personally I would prefer to keep Makelele. When he and Cambiasso are playing well they tend to take a lot of pressure off the defence. If they let him go I would hope there is a replacement on the roster first.
