Tbh I don't hold out much hope that either Fullkrug or Selke will have any NT relevance. Fullkrug is the better player but will be 28 this season and plays in a horrible Bremen team.

Hopefully either or both can get double figures.

27 is not old for a striker Nowadays. Kane is also 27

Centre forwards tend to have a different career path. U can see Lewandowski, Benzema and Aubameyang those are doing well at 32+

Other than Haaland, there aren’t many CFs who make it early. Clubs like some proven Records n experience in their strikers. Usually 22-24 they are playing more regularly (not even starting), so 27 means they might have made the league like around 4 years ago. Not bad

neither ever will although fun to keep track of them and since they are at the same club who will have more success this season from the 2 could be fun to watch, lol.

if one ever gets NT call up I expect something like Uth, Petersen etc 1-2 games and that's it.

Selke and Füllkrug represent the two common issues when trying to develop tradition CFs in Germany.

For Selke it's the inability to progress and further the early promise that showed. A combination of poor career decisions, along with attitude and motivation issues, he hasn't really come close to matching his potential from years ago before joining Leipzig. Other players along this category are Mlapa and Ducksch. Although Selke is still well ahead of the others in this regards.

While for Füllkrug, it's the frequent injuries. Seems like he's been getting a serious injury each season for years now. Ginczek is another player like this. There's also Schieber before them. Platte too but he hasn't come class to proving himself consistently on the pro level yet either.

Forgot about Lasogga who is a crossover of both examples. Someone who had bad luck with injuries through the years but later on last motivation and chose to move to the Middle East. At his age, he could still be playing somewhere in Germany or Europe.

our track record with African descent CFs is also abmysal as well, Moukoko and Adeyemi seem like ones who could change that. While France, England, Belgium etc all do better in this regard. With us it's more physicality and lack of skills.

Add Seydel in category 2, had a very good start in 1BL with Mainz and then crashed and burned non stop injury issues. Like half of the 96 CF haven't done much due to injuries. Platte actually looked good in 1BL when younger but always injured/out.

seems like a dude with mother issues, lol.His mom seems to be the one who controls him. Seems like a career $$$ based, recall HSV wanting to get rid of him too. Wasn't well rated in Championship either.

With Niclas Füllkrug (27) Werder finally has a more accurate striker again. Four goals after four games are impressive. A reliable clipper was sorely missed in the horror season.

The proof: Bremen have used 80% of their great opportunities so far, in the previous season it was only 43% (source: Deltatre).

Selke is only back up/bench option this season. Kruse's replacement at Bremen is Fullkrug. If he wasn't injured almost all of last season unlikely that Bremen would have been relegation fighting.

    Werder: Selke "not written off"
Florian Kohfeldt continues to rely on striker Davie Selke (25) in his sporting plans. “For me he is anything but written off. I'm glad to have his quality in the squad, "said the SV Werder Bremen coach at today's press conference. "

Partially said as lip service, as Selke is still part of the team and the coach will naturally hope the player starts to bounce back and improve.

Selke's had a variety of issues in recent years, from career choices, injuries, work ethic, mentality, and output. He's not a complete write off but there's definitely a long way to go in terms of getting his career back on the right track.

hard to not write him off tbh, I'm like 50% write off but at same time we've had a ton of late bloomers like 28+ years old CF who do well. Soon to be 26 too.

although I've wrote him off from playing with Germany. Would be welcomed surprised if he did down the line.

Helmes, Schieber, Lasogga, Ginczek, Füllkrug, Selke, etc. Just another one on that list of strikers whose career is permanently derailed by injuries along with other factors in their career

Oof Selke scores against his loan parents club Hertha but goes off in the first half injured. Pretty much sums up his (and Füllkrug's) season in a nutshell
