Bayern Munich's slender chances of signing Roy Makaay from Deportivo La Coruna look to have completely evaporated after the prolific Dutch striker publicly admitted that playing in Germany would at best be a fallback plan.

"Personally I prefer to play in Spain or England," the 28-year-old told the Munich daily tz. "If I had to choose between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, I´d not hesitate for United."

The news won't arrive as a hammer-blow to Bayern's fans, however, as they had already all but given up on seeing him in a 'Rotenhosen' jersey next year after coach Ottmar Hitzfeld admitted that the chances of signing him are next to none.

There are those rumors of him going to Man U. Man, him and Ruud combined would OWN the Premiership and really boost their chances of winning CL.

I'm glad to hear he doesn't want to go to Germany, he should just stay in Spain...Valencia need a good striker, probably the only reason they didn't go farther into the CL this season and that they aren't higher in the standings.

If he did go to Manchester to get paired up with Ruudje, it could help him to secure a starting spot on the Dutch national team..cause Dickie would see that the partnership works (unlike Kluivert + Ruud)

Claudio Lopez is coming back to Valencia. He is prolly the good striker we need but my only only concern is him missing clutch penalties in the Uefa cup and serie A. Another striker may be in the cards but prolly not another high profile one.

basicly says he wouldnt let the opportunity to play for the second best team in Europe and he does not want to continue in Depor.

What a jackass. Why Munich? Does that suit his style? Hope no one gets offended I just don't like the Bundesliga. BTW D'Alessandro is an official Wolfsburg player. 9 million euros plus Fernandez and manesquez. Good move for them and him. He'll be noticed alot in Europe.

I think it's a good move on his part. Bayern will likely win the German title next year. More importantly after bowing out so early last year, I would imagine winning the CL is their number one goal this season.

Probably opens up the possibility of Bayern selling Elber in the future. Isn't Elber already 31?

This doesn't make sense... why would Betis sign Elber with only 1 year left on his contract? He will stay one more year and then probably move on to Spain on a free transfer

I doubt Bayern will sign Makaay, we are too stingy

Since Depor has had such a terrible offseason, mostly because of Barcelona, losing Makaay would be a disaster. Although the team does need the money and I think Luque and Tristan will be just fine as the strikers.
