Major League Baseball announced the postseason schedule on Tuesday. It starts with the National League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser on Oct. 1 and could end on the last day of the month if the 109th World Series goes seven games.
Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the ballpark of the American League champions.
The regular season concludes on Sunday, Sept. 29, and any necessary regular-season tiebreaker games would be broadcast exclusively by TBS. The NL Wild Card Game, aired on TBS, will be followed by the American League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser on TBS on Wednesday, Oct. 2. It will mark the second year for the single Wild Card Game format, both of which were won by road teams last year: St. Louis over Atlanta and Baltimore over Texas.
Each NL Division Series will begin on Thursday, Oct. 3, and the first full slate of Division Series games, featuring the two AL Division Series openers and a pair of NLDS Game 2s, will take place on Friday, Oct. 4. The Division Series will run from Oct. 3-10, with two potential Game 5s on both Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10. TBS will air 18 of the potential 20 Division Series games, while MLB Network will exclusively telecast one game on Oct. 4, and another on Monday, Oct. 7.

What time during the day are the wild card games played at? Hopefully late in the day since I'm flying to Miami Wednesday and don't get in until 4:15p.

Wait, not til 2015? Oh well.

I hope that the Reds take 2 out of three from the Pirates so that the teams finish with identical won loss records. That way, that ridiculous one game play-in will have some legitimacy, since the game would've been played anyway (unlike last season's Cardinal-Braves game -much as I like the Cards and hate the Braves, Atlanta got screwed). Then regardless of what happens next season, the commissioner gets rid of it during the 2015 winter meetings.

    Speaking of Miami...

More appropriate for the Astros, since they haven't won in two weeks.

I'm waiting for the year where one wild-card team has like 101 wins and the other has 82. And the team with 82 wins! Just to highlight how ridiculously unfair a one-game playoff is. :sneaky:

This season both wild card games will be between teams with similar, if not identical records. But this highlights another problem with the 5 -team playoff: it doesn't add any excitement to the September stretch-run. If there was just 1 wild-card per league, the NL wildcard race would have been more exciting. And the AL race too, for that matter.

IIRC, last year's AL one-gamer was between teams with identical records. But yeah: this weekend's Reds/Pirates series would be a lot more meaningful if they weren't essentially playing for heme field.

Now, if the Pirates sweep and the Cubs sweep the Cardinals, I think we wind up in a situation where the Cardinals play the Pirates, with the winner getting the division and the loser getting home field against the Reds. . . .Who will be resting up to be better able to knock out a team that finished four games ahead of them.

Yes, the one good thing about the wild-card game is that it serves as a good punishment for not winning your division (since you can then only use your Ace once in the division series, while you have to face your opponent's Ace twice if the series goes 5 games).

So far, so good. Let's face it, the most interesting World Series would be between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox. Two teams from the original 16 and they've never met for the championship. Both now one step away. Keep it up!

These ********ing "elimination games" for the Cardinals are making me old. Fast. That, and the one and two hitters hitting around .118 or so.

I think the Pirates would've had an even better chance if they'd started Cole in game one and went with Burnett in Game 2, if at all. But they'll be back, that's for sure.

That is one hell of a pitching match up for game two of the NLCS.
