1500 local time, that's 10 AM on the right coast, 7 AM on the left. No TV in the States, it appears, unless Setanta pick up the game. We've got just about everyone available not named Owen or Ameobi for this one, looks like. I'm hoping we see Rossi and Ollie for a bit in this game, I think it'll do them some good to hit the ground running. With Martins still fighting that deadleg I can't see us not going with a 4-5-1. Referee: Chris Foy No reason we shouldn't roll Fulham, honestly. Unless the team bus gets hit by a train or something.
Reading nufc.com reserves' report it is looking like Olivier is short on fitness so I see him making the bench but he should not feature barring injury... Translation: he'll be on before the half...
Last year's results vs Fulham ... Sep 10 at SJP - Newcastle 1 Fulham 1 Newcastle: Given, Taylor (Bowyer 45), Boumsong, Bramble, Babayaro, Carr, Faye (Clark 72), Parker, Luque (N'Zogbia 35), Shearer, Owen. Fulham: Warner, Volz, Knight, Bocanegra, Niclas Jensen, Radzinski (John 70), Claus Jensen, Diop, Malbranque, Boa Morte, McBride (Helguson 81). "Ten-man Newcastle [Parker 83] needed the brilliance of teenage substitute Charles N'Zogbia to prevent record signing Michael Owen's welcome party turning into a wake. Owen's debut was heading for defeat when the French youngster curled home their first Barclays Premiership goal of the season with a superb free-kick 12 minutes from time to clinch just their second point. Fulham were comfortably the better side." Jan 14 at CC - Fulham 1 Newcastle 0 Newcastle: Given, Carr (Elliott 45), Boumsong, Ramage, Babayaro, Solano, Bowyer, Clark, N'Zogbia (Chopra 77), Shearer, Luque (O'Brien 80). Fulham: Niemi, Rosenior, Knight, Pearce, Niclas Jensen, Radzinski (Malbranque 62), Boa Morte, Legwinski (John 73), Elliott, Helguson, McBride. "Fulham midfielder Steed Malbranque celebrated his come-back from injury by heaping further pressure on under fire Newcastle boss Graeme Souness. Newcastle, who were weakened by yet another injury this morning when Titus Bramble failed a fitness test after damaging his foot, had a Jean-Alain Boumsong chance cleared off the line and would have snatched a share of the spoils but for Niemi's late brilliance."
depends: "Roeder is still waiting to see whether Shola Ameobi will be fit to return before he decides whether to hand Rossi a Newcastle debut alongside a fit-again Oba Martins." I say let him have at it and be prepared for the Ynaks Abroad contingent to come over and critique
Dirty Yanks, mucking up our game... oh wait. He is an Italian international for good, right? Can he play U21 for Italy and then switch to the US?
rest shola we will need him fit for uefa cup Q. fulham is a bottom 15 club and if we lose i WILL shoot FFreddy 2-1 with duff and martins scoring, bullard pulls one back late....
Asking this question will only feed the YanksAbroad. At this point, I would say he is definitely not tied to a country. In most cases, you have to play in a FIFA-sanctioned match for a country's first team before you are tied to that country. Adu was subbed in during a friendly for the US this past spring but they still say he can play for Ghana. The reason: it wasn't a FIFA-sanctioned match. FIFA-sanctioned isn't only a WC qualifying match or Euro qualifying match. I believe friendlies can be FIFA-sanctioned but only those played during FIFA mandated breaks. My personal take on it is ... if you don't want to play for my country than F*CK off and play for whoever you want. I want my players fighting for the honor of my country. IMO after having long discussions about it
shola is striving to get fit but he should be rested for thursdays uefa cup. the problem is then we have west ham, everton, liverpool and manU and the second leg of the cup in like a month
Does it matter? It's all about being hard core and motivated to get the job done. Robert Lee, Shearer, Beardsley, Milburn, etc. those guys were hard-core, got the job done for NUFC, and that's what I can only hope Rossi does. Sorry, but I don't play the political nationalities game. As your boys the Police said, One World is enough....
PremierLeague.com Preview. Newcastle United v Fulham Saturday 09 September 2006 15:00 LATE TEST FOR AMEOBI Shola Ameobi faces a late fitness test ahead of Newcastle United’s St James’ Park clash with Fulham on Saturday despite making good progress on his long-standing hip complaint. AMEOBI ON ROAD TO RECOVERY Manager Glenn Roeder said last week the front man looked certain to be ruled out, but Ameobi has recovered well and returned to full training with the squad this week. New boy Giuseppe Rossi is likely to start on the bench after sealing his loan deal from Manchester United, while defender Steven Taylor is a doubt after returning from international duty with an injured foot. WEEKEND FIXTURES: HEAD-TO-HEAD Fulham expect to have midfielder Michael Brown fit from a knee problem. Wayne Routledge, signed on a season loan from Tottenham Hotspur, is likely to start on the bench, while Denmark midfielder Claus Jensen should be back from a calf strain. Ahmad Elrich (knee) and Simon Elliott (calf) remain out. Newcastle United (from): Given, Babayaro, Carr, Taylor, Bramble, Moore, Ramage, Emre, N’Zogbia, Parker, Duff, Butt, Solano, Martins, Ameobi, Rossi, Milner, Luque, Sibierski, Harper. Fulham (from): Niemi, Rosenior, Christanval, Pearce, Queudrue, Brown, Radzinski, Diop, Bullard, Boa Morte, John, Helguson, McBride, Drobny, Routledge, Volz, Bocanegra, Jensen. We name 20, they name 18. Thx, Jay!
By the game trackers, it appears we have had the runof play so far. Plenty of shots, good possession, but so far no goals.
Whats our formation? Shola - Oba Zog - Emre - Parker - Duff Carr - Moore - Bramble - Ramage I know Carr can play on the left and has done so before. The midfield seems really heavy on left footed players.
