Are these the two business models of future WPS clubs? Individual owners, Gold Pride and Freedom for example, with a passion for soccer have had problems staying afloat. We are still waiting to see what the Orange Cty Group model will look like.

Two men with strong businesses using the clubs as an advertising and marketing tools which help offset the expense of running a club and give value to their companines as owers of a Pro Sports Team.

MagicTalk promotes its' FREE download and $10 yr FREE phone.

Sahlen sells his hot dogs at venues and get exposure for his product line in the South and eventually the West Coast to wholesalers.

Obivously...there are rule Breakers like Boston with just super turn outs.

Hey - if this model means 40+ playing jobs and another 4-5 coaching jobs at the D1 pro level in the US, it's an unmitigated GOOD THING. It's an annoying thing, IMHO, but a good thing.

It's certainly an improvement over owner's complaining about losing pretty much what they were projected to lose when they signed on. Also, if these guys are egotistical, they'll overpay for top talent and not care. The only downside I can see is we don't know their commitment level . . . but we don't know that for anyone. Besides they can't even get in the running for WPS "sports jerk" because the jackoff in St. Louis retired the trophy.

OK. The Red Stars had super turnouts and look what happened to them.
You still need owners with deeeeeeep pockets that are willing to lose money for the foreseable future.

like boston which doesnt have an owner who basically is fusing his advertising and marketing department to his team or turning the teams into walking billboards like nascar. i can only guess that sahlen and magictalk will write off some of this as advertising expenses for their business. the rest of the franchises dont fit this model exactly. mr magictalk talked about this in an interview, about rebranding the team in his company image to offset the cost of running it. team loses equal business write or part of that budget for magictalk.
