    Interview:

“I signed in August and there were so many things happening. The team was already in first and was first the whole season so looking back, I can't blame the coach,” said Corboz referencing a lack of initial playing time in his interview with OneGoal. “[The coach] had no reason to change anything, and at the time, it was also a team that had just been relegated from the second division and kept the core of players together, so they were all experienced players.”

So, after playing nearly 350 minutes and picking up an assist for Duisburg, Corboz knew it wasn’t meant to be as the club continued on its trek to winning promotion back to the 2. Bundesliga. And while it wasn’t the start in Europe that he would’ve hoped for, he always felt that he could play in the third-division on a club challenging for promotion.

“I hadn’t gotten a chance with the [Duisburg] first team but internally, I knew I had the level to,” said Corboz.

Now, five years later, he is really ready for it. “When I came to Duisburg at that time, I was still very young, I didn't understand or speak a word of German. It wasn't an easy time. It was a big, maybe too big step, even if I already had the will to make it back then, ”says Mael Corboz looking back. "Since then I have developed further both in terms of football and above all personally, have become more mature and ready to take it this time," says the newcomer to the sports club in perfect German. But his guest performance at the time had one advantage: "I know life in Germany now, even if it's a completely different culture than in my home country."

  17. Well, he left Go Ahead too early. Yesterday the Eagles in an unexpected surprise turn of the plot of the soccer matchday/evening were promoted directly to the Eredivisie.
