It’s more so due to continuity, they’ve the same manager playing a similar style for consecutive years and are upgrading and tweaking their team, they’re looking for improvements whilst we need a more dramatic change to leapfrog them. We’re not in a position to do what they’re doing right now, like they weren’t in the same position a few years ago when they were celebrating getting to (and losing) a Spanish super cup final …
Flick might be getting those signings now. First two seasons, he made it work with players who were underperforming under Xavi. Didn't replace Inigo last summer, Laporta wanted Nico etc.

Landon Donovan makes ZERO sense. Complains about lower income families not playing football, but why would anybody put his kids through a sport that pays worse at the professional level than the top athletes earn at the collegiate level? A top prospect in CFB or basketball earns more than a lot of the players playing Champions League football. The reason a lot of parents get really invested in football in Europe with their kids is because it presents a similar career path to tackle football, baseball and basketball in the US. You can potentially change your life. This leave football/soccer to families that can afford to let their kids play a sport with no financial thought in mind.
I think there just needs to be a realistic expectation of what US is and will be. It’s never going to be the top, or second or third sport. it’s not ingrained in the culture. That’s ok. Our best hope is to be like a Morocco or Norway and punch above our weight and get to the quarterfinals or maybe even a semifinal once every other World Cup. It’s hard for a lot of Americans to comprehend that we will never be contenders for a World Cup.
Eh, those imbeciles Deco/Laporta/Echevarria forced that bum Vitor Roque on Xavi, who NOBODY wanted; Xavi and most Culers knew that Busquets had to be replaced. So, its not an automatic that Barça's manager will get the players he wants.
Eh, I dunno if I'd call Gordon for €80MM, or the moronic pursuit of a #10 in Alvarez to square peg into the #9, "Moneyball." FFS, those ässholes want to set €150MM on fire to sign Alvarez, a player who only scored 6 La Liga goals from the run of play. Lewis wrote in "Moneyball" about both thrift, and finding value in players where the rest of the industry did not. One could argue that perhaps Gordon and Adeyemi were about Barca trying ro find value, but then Laporta is going right back into overspending at the same time.
I notice it in Germany a lot in the past few days, it's the same idea "we need a system, we need a process that produces players, we need" like there's a chain of events that delivers top players and everybody is doing the opposite by some weird coincidence. The truth is you have better and you have worse generations. It's hard to accept luck and coincidence as part of any process.
If you look at this Spain team, besides Yamal and Rodri, there really isn't many players in there that would be guaranteed starters for any other nation. There is a system in place and a style of play. Of course, that's just one nation amongst many nations.
But prior to any system you must have the players with the right characteristics for said system who can also complement one-another well.
And I also disagree, players like Laporte, Fabian Ruiz or even Cucurella would start for nearly every other NT not named Spain at this moment.
That's the project nobody understands right now. A kid that has never been in Morocco or ever been in their system and has played for every single German national team just said he has an offer from Morocco to play for them because they have family from there, he's eligible for the citizenship and they'd take care of it. They apparently start covering these players when they turn 8 years old in the kids leagues across Europe, it's about 40.000 kids. As soon as they turn out good, they approach the family with an offer. Multiple German U21 and U17 players have confirmed getting an offer (and considering it), France, Germany, Spain among others are discussing a way to prevent this system/change the rules so that it's harder to switch

Seeing the kind of business the clubs outside of the microscope are doing will make it very hard for practically anybody outside a small handful of clubs to compete consistently.
This is what the us tried to do but given the political shift of anti immigration I don’t think they are going to win hearts and minds to convince kids to play for the US. what I find amusing is the argument that LeBron James, Deion Sanders, Allen iverson, if they played soccer instead we’d be winning world cups. It’s comical to hear the non soccer people say that stuff, they think soccer is the easiest sport to play.
The United States has, and will continue to, take in more immigrants every year than any other country in the world.

Aubameyang was dropped from the squad for the final match of the season by Marseille after a training ground disturbance that saw the club's Sporting Coordinator Bob Tahri sprayed with a fire extinguisher by Aubameyang, who later apologised for his role in the incident.
Meanwhile Madrid still needing the backup CF since he left Dortmund. Exactly what's needed to keep Mourninho honest and on his toes.

Might explain why the club never seemed to even look the players way when the defense was falling apart.
