You make it seem like we have Maldini-Nesta in CB. We only have Rudiger who is WC and he's at the tail-end of his career. We better be scouting for top-class CBs or we'll end up in the Pavon-Helguera era again.
Militao when healthy is twice the player Ligt is. At RM, a CB who won CL at 23 as a starter is criticized while Ligt after flopping at Juve and Bayern is rated because his passing is pleasing to the eye. But his job is to defend and even in Serie A where slow defenders like Walter Samuel fourished, Ligt flopped. And if comparisons are with RM, we went for Rudiger as 3rd choice CB that summer (see whom Carlo started). Mentality wasn't 3rd choice signing doesn't have be to world class. Nacho and eventual Alaba replacement will be scouted with that mentality.
Looking at the people you've suggested we buy we would have ended up in the Pavon-Helguera era faster... probably by now

I know that overall, it's the Glazers and the legacy of Fergie that can't be easily replicated, but that Pogba signing really set the tone and killed whatever fumes they had left.
Man, I'm not quite sure. I'm the opposite of a Pogba fan and back then he was super hyped. I never really rated him that high so not too surprised he didn't deliver (ho ho ho), but Barca had first refusal rights back then. Things go differently and he actually joins Barca back then. They just couldn't justify spending that kind of money on him at the point. Pogba was a system player with a star personality that didn't match that so most people got fooled into thinking he was a star player but within a system he could be good.
Chelsea is a goldmine for agents looking to capitalize on an organization way above its head in what they are doing. Having experienced it at lower tier (third and second division football), spotting the new guy with too much money is something agents are simply extremely good at.
Which is why this agent thing is a mess. There is an agent representing two of the best Colombian prospects in Duran and Asprilla. The agent had Duran put pressure on Villa and had him do the West Ham symbol on social media and now the transfer to West Ham fell apart and he looks like an idiot and Asprilla’s transfer to Rennesfell apart after agreed terms because the agent asked for a later agent fee. Rennes then went on to sigh a different young Colombian that doesn’t have an idiotic agent. This is madness
Barca in latter years of Bartu was a bit like this. Hijacking Malcom from Roma after showing no interest until he was about to have a medical at Roma, random signings like Andre Gomes and Alcacer from Valencia.

Barca media yesterday including Sport were like Nico said yes to Barcelona. This is funnier than their annual Bernardo Silva drama every summer. Common sense says no way Nico messes around with Athletic Bilbao fanbase like this to join Barca at the end of the window. 🔴⚪️🔟 Nico Williams: “I’m proud to get the shirt number 10 from Muniain and to make history as he did”. pic.twitter.com/JsUbDiFbmi— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 12, 2024

Coman is stupid good when healthy. A rare treat, but hey. It's a gamble. Bayern would be open for a loan deal with clause to buy.
Eh he won’t get too far with that style. Managers that connect with players seem to be the ones succeeding in every sport
I swear, he even sounds like Pep from whenever those behind the scenes videos on the training grounds and locker rooms get released.
Kompany hiring was just weird, full stop. Not sure on the logic behind it all other than being rejected by anyone and everyone at the time.
Agree, awesome player when healthy. He’d be one of the elite players in the world today if it wasn’t for his injuries imo.
First Xavi and now him. Not so great summer to Bayren with this 2 big targets they wanted denied them. This is the most dumb thing i ever seen.
