I don't think Castilla is a good place to develop talent that leads directly to Real Madrid playing time. Got to push these guys into the pool outside the kiddie level to see where they are Chema was saying he was surprised how comfortable he feels in Germany, I wonder what kind of impression he had going there.
Haven't had a chance yet to see as much of Chema and Stuttgart as I would've liked, but hopefully this goes more the way of Carvajal than Vallejo when it comes to German adventures. (I guess Hakimi would be a good outcome too but obviously f*ck-all that did for us on the field.)
Vallejo had injury issues even in Germany. Kovac had already said he's talented enough to be the captain of the national team in the future but he has to be on the field to do that. I like Kovac as a coach a lot by the way, not in the real Madrid context but overall in general. Some people just aren't born for pro sports genetically.
Yeah, I even remember very well Vallejo had a very good half-season at Frankfurt before he got injured, the reviews were great, unfortunately those injury issues popped up and then just never went away.
I have started watching his games this season. I don't want to go overboard but the signs are very good with him. He's matured a lot it seems. There is already a certain degree of refined feel to his game which he didn't have earlier and he's still learning. I notice some mistakes every time i watch him, kinda small things. Sometimes it feels like he's in a bit of a rush. Yes!! This is the guy to keep an eye on. I've read good reviews as well. He's doing really well it seems. I have to find some time to watch him play. Nico is 1000% coming back to join us next summer. Como barely kept him last summer. When it's a cantera guy the excitement levels just go up for me. And he's adding to an area of need for us so i am very excited to have him back. Hopefully he stays healthy.
Yup. Huge 7 months for Camavinga and even Arda. Guler has the chance to cement his place here or get left behind in the shuffle. Jude also to find a permanent role for himself on this current team. He isn't under pressure but it's important he returns back healthy and gets back to form. Ceballos has to be either shipped or sent on loan next summer if he refuses to leave on a transfer so Nico will take his spot on the roster. One LB will leave so that opens up another spot. Two CBs might leave, we will sign one for sure, the other spot will be dictated by what happens the rest of the season.
The Jude discourse feels weird to me and I'm not excluding myself from that. I have to remind myself that he was a €100m+ transfer signing for a reason, and why it was the likes of us, Liverpool, Man City, let alone others who were in pursuit of him. And I saw plenty of him at Dortmund, he was really excellent there, before taking into account what all of us saw of him during the '23-'24 season. Frankly, his unexpected goal scoring explosion is what kept us afloat during the first half of that season, who knows about the CL but we don't win the league without his contributions. And maybe it's worth remembering as well that his shoulder has finally been operated on, hopefully he's "fixed" and we'll see something closer to the level of Jude's play from before his shoulder injury. I guess where I'm going with this is that Jude is really good at a lot of things, it feels like on his name alone he should be a locked-in first XI guy, and maybe with health and fitness he'll get there. Maybe we need these upcoming difficult games to remind ourselves of why we need Jude Bellingham, that winning nine of our first ten mostly without Jude is fine and wonderful and whatever but it hasn't been a gauntlet (and the one defeat was against our toughest opponent by a country mile; I won't hold it against Jude that he was started in that game when very clearly he shouldn't have been) and playing against Barcelona and Liverpool will be a good, stern indicator that we need more steel in the midfield that Jude can provide. I'm rambling here. I suppose my broad point was that our midfield right now has looked good and in a sense Jude's role there right now doesn't seem as obvious as it should. That we have an anchor, a playmaker, and a physical two-way presence even if Fede's looked less than himself so far. Even then, Fede is right-sided, and Jude can play right-sided but he's more comfortable centrally or on the left, so it's not the most obvious change. It's hard to switch out Arda for Jude, because Jude very simply is not on the creative level that Arda is, it becomes a matter then of what can Arda show us in games against tough, physical opposition. I'll always have some concerns there given Arda's physique, hopefully this is a concern that will abate in time. In one sense, these are good problems to have, in another sense they are still problems needing some kind of solutions, and I'm not smart enough to have a great answer.
I believe we haven't been offensive enough and have relied very heavily on Mbappe brilliance. This has been a blessing though because it's help Xabi get a foothold early. Why it hurt us is over reliance. In the end how we have played best was having our RW basically be a RB which takes away from our offensive efficiency but gives us higher workrate and balance
I don't understand any of this Bellingham bullocks. The man had a long season + CWC while playing in pain, got the operation and didn't train with the team in August and September. He was cleared to play days ago and understandably hasn't regained full match nor has he integrated with his teammates and Xabi's system. This sh!t takes a bit of time, it's not an on and off switch. If Tuchel doesn't want him in the English NT, it's their loss really, football isn't going "home" with the likes of Saka, Eze and Rice.
They have a new coach, are playing well and Jude has not featured at all for them. Its not a case or being anti Bellingham, it's a case of being pro team. If we'd be humming and blowing teams out without him, there's a fair chance he'd be on the bench for us too.
Nico will be back next year, Chema not so sure. He could maybe come back in 2027 if things work out. Next summer you have Alaba and Rudiger contracts ending. So they will sign one CB. The other opening roster spot does not need to be a defender. Franco is registered with Castilla this year so technically there is a roster spot open this year. But I assume they cannot do that next year. I am not familiar with these rules. Mendy, Fran, Ceballos end in 2027. They will have to keep a LB but thats another 2 spots in 2027. It is possible that 1 or 2 youngsters fill those spots. The current crop of youngsters look fairly good... Chema, Joan, Aguado, Cestero, Thiago etc.
Nagelsmann gave an interesting short interview that Germany doesn't develop a certain type of player because the entire youth system plays one system and those players don't really have a place there. Sounds like a bit of an excuse to me. Saying Germany doesn't have a Rodri as if he's a celestial being.
There was a time when Toni Kroos was considered that. I feel like coaches like Nagelsmann have gone the way analytics coaches have gone in US sports, just missing the Forrest for the trees.
Also keep an eye for Brahim and Rodrygo... Depending on how the season goes, It would not surprise me if there is movement with those two. Someone has to make way for Florentino's World Cup star lol..
He has missed 2 windows where they slapped up Latvia, Andorra, Serbia, and Wales. Media trying to conclude from those performances that they may not need Bellingham against the likes of Spain France Argentina and Brazil. It is absolutely a load of bullocks. There is no doubt he will be on the plane to the United States next summer and by that time I'm sure he will have played his way into the starting lineup again. The English national team has good players, but Bellingham's quality is at or near the top of that list.
Do England have a better chance beating Spain with Morgan Rogers in the lineup or Jude Bellingham? I think the latter is pretty obvious
I think Brahim might as well start packing, i don't think he'll be here next season, especially because he actually has some value left. I don't think Brahim is the kinda player Xabi wants to use too much especially when he prefers Guler and Franco for the 2 positions Brahim is great at. I like Brahim, have done so since he joined, he's a nifty player and he had 2 good seasons with us where he contributed significantly from the bench and as a starter. Rodrygo, i don't know. I thought he was for sure gone last summer. Now we heard he had mental health issues last season. In my opinion Xabi likes him and sees him as a useful player, i don't know with Rodrygo. I want him to stay but let's see how the season shakes out. If after December Franco is still being selected over him then he's gotta start looking elsewhere too.
Yeah, it's not true. https://bleacherreport.com/articles...madrid-still-blame-him-for-kylian-mbappe-miss
We could have tried to get the star of the last world cup but I am assuming Messi didn't quite fancy playing for us. The star of the world cup prior was arguably Mbappe. It's also pretty obvious that the club Really really liked Rodri. This club likes to sign big names, no stage to make your name big like a world cup.
Sandro Wagner: We watched a Federer interview with the coaches where he says he won over 85% of the matches he played, but had a success rate of 56% in those matches which means almost every other ball he misses or hits out of the court. You have to switch your mind and don't think about how many mistakes you make but how significant they are overall if at all. We've talked about this with Mastantuono for example. Coaches nowadays prioritize volume over precision. Players that work a lot and have a million touches on the ball are what football is about in 2025. It used to be holding possession, but now it is creating volume offensively and defensively. Fans that talk about "headless chicken" simply don't see the game the way a lot of coaches see it nowadays. Most coaches of the current generation would rather have a player that makes 10 attempts but succeeds in 6 out of 10,rather than somebody that has 3 but succeeds in 2. You need to make your time on the field valuable.
