    Just to clarify, the club has made it known to agents of the starting players that they are not willing to let any of them go before the club world cup in mid 2025. Rios was a bit of a starter lately before CA. Players will only leave if a club comes and pays the buyout clause. I think Rios also said before he went to play in the CA that he wanted to finish the season in Brazil (December).

    I don’t mind Colombian players staying in Brazil. It’s been good for our NT. Fans obsessed over players going to Europe but I think the Brazil league is damn good and they have developed our guys well

    Because of the Euro, purely. Modric won it largely on national team heroics as well.

    Modric led Croatia as the best midfielder in the world at the time. Rodri, while a fine player and one of the best defensive midfielders, arguably wasn't as important for Spain as Modric was for Croatia. He didn't score some important goals, nor did it feel like he was carrying the team. The Spanish wingers were much more important to their system. It's like giving the Ballon d'Or to Busquets.

    Rodri wasn't even in the top 3 when he won everything with City in 22/23 and scored in the UCL final.

    This year he wasn't the best player in City or Spain or the Euros but a growing number of muppets thinks he should win it.

    Perhaps it has something to do with 3-4 players from RM being favs to win it..clearly that doesn't sit will with many people.

    Cannavaro won it for three great weeks at the world cup despite his team dropping to the second division in a match fixing scandal.

    Those FIFA/UEFA tournaments just matter more than anything.

    Another "issue" we'll have there is players splitting the votes, which means that Vini, Bellingham etc. take votes away from each other.

    Been a while, but R9 won it in 2002 solely for scoring 8 goals in that WC. Rossi won it in 82 basically for being Johnny on the spot in WC 82.
