Vini is playing in a similar role as he does at RM. He must've taken his NT criticism to heart because he's been quite good today. Unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet. Brazil defensively are worse than Osasuna. How can you be that bad. It would be in their best interest to recall Casemiro.
The crazy part is Vini was actually doing well this game before the miss and Raphinha had one good moment with the FK but was otherwise invisible.
Yh I thought so too but Vini of old returned after the penalty miss. Wrong choices galore, picking fights with everyone etc. Safe to say Vini is carrying some sort of mental block for the NT
Vini plays a big part but I also think the coach isn't getting the best out of him. (and others) In fact, the Brazil coach is God awful.
I actually thought his role this game was similar to the one he has for us. He was getting plenty of chances but he made the wrong choice almost every single time after his penalty miss. He was very good before that. I think Brazil did enough offensively to win by a big margin. They were just very wasteful.
Even the penalty was embarrassingly bad and he got another chance on the rebound but fluffed that too. I really thought he'd bag a couple after his first half. But at least he isn't stuck as a touchline winger and plays more on the inside. He's going to get there as soon as he gets over his anxiety.
Yep. He was good in the 1st half. Awful after the PK miss (which wasn't even a good save, just an awful PK attempt). Shortly after he had a good chance to take a shot on goal and instead tried centering a pass when Raphinha was clearly not there. Sucks because Raphinha seems like a good PK taker. Took 2 of them very well in the same game in the last round. This was all about trying to give Vini a boost.
At RM he'd taken that shot 10 times out of 10. Just looks like someone with concrete on his shoulders. Shame
Can't be overlooked his body is shit for pro football either. I don't think Barca can be solely blamed for his failure, although playing him a lot could have played a part.
Just way too much hype too early, the loan wasn't the right destination either. Too much business too early.
He should be no where near penalties in my opinion. Yeah he's scored them for us, but even rubbish penalty takers will score more than they miss.
Like clockwork as soon as Vini misses a penalty the vultures are out. Can't wait to see the reactions when he hits a dip in form. Nevermind the fact that all penaltu takers miss penalties. Lewa and Haaland have already missed penalties this season but it is Vini missing a single penalty that makes him unfit to take them.
Jesus talk about babbying somebody. The truth is he hasn't really performed for his country yet, to the level that he has for Madrid. That's undeniable.
Nothing to do with penalties so to speak. In fact you can attribute his weak penalty attempt to the problem he has when performing for the NT. Since people only remember you for G/A nobody will remember him actually having a good game for the most part yesterday.
He's supposed to be the best player in the world now. That's what he told everybody, and that's what the club communicated to the entire world when we raised all that fuss. That's the standard now. You can't put the toothpaste back into the tube now, going forward everybody will expect excellence off of this stunt. Especially Brazil, with their history and tradition. That's what this forum expects from Mbappe for example, don't see why a different standard applies to somebody that basically told the world if it's not me that's the best, it's nobody else.
Yes absolutely if you want to be labeled the best you've got to perform everywhere you play. But he isn't the first and won't be the last to struggle to perform for the NT. Even Messi struggled greatly with the expectations of the NT and he was actually surrounded with much better players than Vini is with this team. I have watched a few of their games and have actually felt sorry for him as he's been lumbered with a Newcastle level team. But he's not done enough to push the team previously but thought he was much improved yesterday and created plenty of chances and had many chances himself. If he continues in this vein there is no reason not to expect him to get past his anxiety which I feel is his problem right now.
It's ok he didn't win the award for it. I mean he is still a kid and likely never live up to the hype. Probably a one season wonder. Sell him and build around Mbappe.
