I think at some point we have to start calling out all of yesterday's starlets: they just aren't good enough. At some point it's not about position, but they just couldn't get past being a future talent.

I remember people on this forum saying Rodri's contribution to City's extraordinary success in recent years is overrated when he won the ballon d'or.

Today City got outclassed by Bournemouth and lost the game being by far the worse team for 90 minutes straight. Almost like you switched teams.

    Aged sooo well

My James prediction was spot on lol

Another former RM player, though this one is an actual legend, also having some trouble with his current team. Had some sort of scuffle with the manager and now is out of a contract.

I love Marcelo but I wish he took the Toni Kroos route.

Manager was subbing him in at the 89th min or so to hold a 2 x 1 lead and Marcelo said something to him that pissed him off. So he sent Marcelo back to the bench and subbed someone else in. Here is a good video.

Not sure what's going on with Marcelo in his life but he has had some behavior with fans that makes him look like a dick. Some fan at the airport was taking a picture with him and put his arm around Marcelo (a bit normal in Brazil) and he reacted pissed telling the fan to not touch him. There was another video going around with some kids wanting to take a picture with him and he took a long time to take the picture ... but he basically stood a couple of meters behind the kid and told him to take the picture with some security around them. Not sure what the context was, but it was a bad look. Everybody thinks he is arrogant who feels superior to everyone else.

Kroos didn't even get voted for German player of the year back when he deserved it. Got it out of pity and embarrassment the next.

Playing without a DM makes the team weaker. What a revelation. :D You can do this for any player without a good back up. Meanwhile, Spain didn't miss Rodri in Euro final because Zubimendi stepped in brilliantly.

Makelele deserved 2003-06 BDR because RM struggled without a competent DM after selling him. Saying how much City struggles with Nunez replacing Rodri is same. I doubt anyone here even made the argument Nunez would do the same job for "aged so well" brag.

Kalvin Philips flopped badly and Nunez is no DM. City have great depth in all areas but missed the trick here.

Using the same argument: Portugal won the Euro without Ronaldo.

Honestly, Rodri is an excellent player and they are missing his influence all over the field.

We shouldn't completely lose sight of what is going on just because of the Balon d'Or controversy. It feels completely immature and idiotic.

Even if Vini would've won the award, Rodri is an absolute game changer for City.

Any world class player getting injured affects a team badly if you don't have proper replacement. Why make the argument as if this is something specific with Rodri? Spain controlled the game with Zubimendi as well. He's a top class DM.

Portugal won because of Pepe masterclass in defense. France outplayed them as they were the better team, but lacked a finisher.

All I know is City look half as organized without him. It's a completely different team.

Which makes the argument that Rodri deserves his balon d'or because City struggle without him quite laughable. Kroos finished 9th and we are a mess without his organisation and passing. Multimillion pound "replacement" look like Granero next to him.

That's your opinion, which strikes me as incredibly familiar because "all Schubkarren Toni ever did was pass sideways" was so common that i never thought we'd do it to another player out of spite.

You can't sit and tell me for weeks that nobody cares about these awards then tell me Rodri isn't a top player with a straight face without it being tied to this ridiculous ball out of wax coated with gold spray.

I don't really compare players in such different positions on the field directly (hence why i felt it was ridiculous when Ronaldo's family cult did against Modric), but Rodri is an elite player who's influence is missing all over the place.

    James cycle is so predictable

team signs him against coach’s wishes for marketing purposes
Coach doesn’t see him fit his plan
    Coach doesn’t play him
Media starts questioning and chastising the coach
    Bad vibes develop
Both player and team decide to end the relationship

That or he does have a coach that wants him but gets fired
New coach doesn’t see him in his plans
The rest of the above cycle resumes

I do think Rayo have the kind of roster that could absorb James. If you are gonna play a James, you need the other players to have high work rate and no ego which I would think Rayo would have. Interesting that this never was really given a chance, but if the coach didn’t want him, they shouldn’t have signed him. And if James knows the coach didn’t want him, don’t sign there either. Just dumb decision making from both James and Rayo

James doesn't have the attitude. There were rumors that he was missing training, turning up late, the usual thing he did at Bayern all the way up to Greece for Olympiacos as well, and the coach responded with "everybody is equal here, nobody is special" and you knew it wouldn't work out.

Him and Marcelo were blatantly phoning it in and just cashing out of the sport in Greece which is a huge shame for their status in the sport.

James doesn’t love the game unless he is wearing his yellow jersey. He sees professional football as just a pay check and just doesn’t care enough. It truly is disgraceful as he clearly still has something to offer but just doesn’t care but still wants to get paid

The difference is that with the national team you don't train, you just play. There's a game every two days anyway so the training schedule is practically just light work and physio. Also, being in the same team hotel makes it difficult to just not turn up or turn up late. You're practically already there.

In a club setting, there's actual training going on. It's hard to justify to a full roster of players that a player plays ahead of them that doesn't even bother in training.

RL vs Vasquez on Tuesday… he will pass him easily. We must sign RB in January or let Jesus Fortea play
