Never at any point understood the hype around this player. Samu fed De Ligt his lunch today.

Good. Let's see how good MLS teams are against the best teams in the world.

Then people ridicule the notion that they did everything in their power to grant Argentina the '22 WC.

You need to be very very aware of the walls in your glass house before you start throwing stones around there.

I still don’t understand how that wasn’t given and I can only imagine if that happened for Argentina lol

Fifa lose their court case against Diarra. Going to be fascinating to see what the fallout is of this.

On the surface it would suggest that players now have the right to just resign from their job and leave their employer (club) mid contract, but there is of course going to be many lawyers involved and a lot of re-thinking of how contracts can be enforced better.

Looks like every club will be forced to change their buyout system? Or forced to include a buyout clause like the Spanish system has.

In the current CWC the current winner of the domestic league participates in the tournament. So technically, it just follows that format. The spot was already held for an MLS team was already held for that. And technically, Inter Miami did win "the league" as it is in most countries. The problem is that the MLS champion is the team who wins the MLS CUP at the tend of the regular season. So yeah ... it's BS.

I believe they have been having problems getting sponsors and selling TV rights. So I am not surprised they would want Messi to be a part of it.

Not sure tbh, I think it makes buyouts clauses more redundant as the player has to right to just leave when they want. I suspect at the top end of the game it becomes about incentivising players to not want to leave, and they could do that by loading up contracts with some wages as annual financial incentives, similar to current signing on fees, and weigh them heavier the further into it you go. Further down the football pyramid the harder that is to do though.

You could argue that clubs could do the same and just cut a non performing high earner and let him eat dirt on the open market after a year of two of playing badly.

Somebody like Mariano would be screwed.

I've seen a journalist arguing that today, it's not a side i had thought about.

Ultimately I think it's a positive outcome, its just the transition from current model to future model that could see some clubs (and players) get in a mess

That arguably (also) depends on the national jurisdictions, which in continental Europe are generally employee friendly.

It's hair raisingly wasteful. I show you this and ask you how many trophies this team has won and you're seeing one of the most dominant teams in the competition.

Funny enough we've had some absolutely shocking performances here and there in group stages and early knockouts.

Well I guess that means players can just force their way out, and teams can cancel contracts similar to any other job.

Effectively this kills payments between clubs, don't think agents will be too happy about this.

    Historic television crisis in France

The channel that broadcasts Ligue 1, DAZN, has less than 100,000 subscribers and was expecting more than a million. The contract could be terminated in two years

On September 13, in an attempt to attract more customers, the channel announced that, for one week, the amount would be reduced to 19.99 euros per month, a decision that has not caused a stir among the French, fed up with the inflation of the price of watching football and the rise of IPTV, which amounts to 2 million annual consumers in the Hexagon.

DAZN's contract with the LFP includes several clauses, such as the possibility of unilaterally terminating it by the French league if the British platform does not reach 1.5 million subscribers in its second year. If the news that it barely reaches 100,000 subscribers, unable to find a foreign investor to encourage its development, is confirmed, the collapse will be inevitable.

But DAZN is not the only party to the crisis currently affecting French football. The channel that broadcasts the remaining matches, BeIN Sports, agreed in August with the LFP to broadcast one match per matchday for 100 million euros . The Qataris have not yet paid the first sum in September and are not prepared to pay a single euro until the French league, as they stipulate, agrees to promote sponsorship of the Middle Eastern country's brand and meets a series of conditions.
