If me, you and the rest of "regulars" at MLS games recruit 2 or 3 other regulars then we'd probably double the attendance wouldn't we?! In fact, that's what I've been trying to do for the past year but I've found it extremely difficult. Although many of my friends are soccer fans (follow the big european clubs and always watch the world cups, play the sport, etc...), and although I've brought them to many Fire games, it's not catching on for some reason. Sure they like to come when I bring a group, but none of them have EVER said to me "hey, let's go to a Fire game this weekend", or "who did the fire play this week?" For them, coming to a Fire game is like going to see a movie. Once in a while and they enjoy it. Nothing more. Frustrates the hell out of me but persistence should pay off after a while. They are more interested now than they were a year ago so if I can't get them to be real Fire fans yet, my goal is to have them be more interested in the Fire next year than this year. Step by step.
I stopped trying. Football is God in Texas, and the perception among the football egos is that soccer is for girls and that its boring. Never have they checked it out foe themselves, just believed the common stereotype, but things will change when soccer gets more attention on tv. Atleast show MLS highlights on ESPN!
Why stop trying? You never know when someone will get hooked! I got hooked on the Fire and MLS last season when they didn't even make the playoffs! Why don't you bring them to the new stadium home opener of FC Dallas? I doubt they'll think it boring with the atmosphere and energy on and off the field at that game. At least it should make it easier to bring them back.
Stick around BS long enough and you will learn not to mention MLS and Atlanta together in the same week. Really, people get irate.
Our people are so ignorant, they don't even want to give a look, what soccer is all about, or just try to watch soccer game on TV, i remember giving a suggestion to a friend to watch the US-Poland friendly, and he said ok he would give it a try, next day i asked him how was it, he said he didn't watch it, he broke his promise ... i am sure if he gave it a try he would come back for more and so are other people, it's only take one good quality soccer match to become a soccer fan, just my opinion.
For real. . if they are video gamers, get them to play some multiplayer games on their console like Winning Eleven Soccer. I got about 6 guys hooked on the game two years ago and now they follow the EPL and the international stuff pretty closely. We went to the Real Madrid game in Chitown recently, manU last year and will see AC milan. Nothing like video games to indoctrinate the masses!
