    Chiquita, that is ;)

    From US Soccer:

Chiquita Sponsors U.S. Men's and Women's National Soccer Teams

"Chiquita has signed two of the sport’s most visible and popular stars to serve as brand spokespersons. Landon Donovan, a forward on the U.S. Men’s National Team and a member of the 2002 FIFA World Cup All-Star Team, and Shannon McMillan, a forward on the U.S. Women’s National Team and U.S. Soccer’s 2002 Chevrolet Female Athlete of the Year, will help promote Chiquita® bananas and other fresh fruit as part of the company’s sponsorship."

wonder what a spokesperson for bananas says? Sounds like both Landon and Shannon lose. Think about it, if either one of them confesses to liking bananas, everyone smiles, but for different reasons.

Oh well, grab the money and run.

Chiquita has been a wonderful sponsor of soccer in the US for years, so inspite of the jokes, I think this is great.

They had a uniform program with adidas a few years ago that really made sense. Most of these sponsors throw money at the league for advertising, but really get nothing back. For example, how is Hyundai's money getting to your family? Do WUSA season-ticket holders get discounts or lower intrest financing?

And good for Mac and Landon! I hope they make ton.

And of course the U.S. Women's Cup, now the Nike Cup, was originally the Chiquita Cup back in '94.

Nothing wrong with a good banana joke, though :)

I personally think that this is cool. I am a firm believer in bananas. They're not my favorite fruit, but I always gotta have one before my intramural games.
