Mac On the Bubble Thanks for posting this information spiritpr. I enjoyed this morning's interview with Shannon MacMillan on AM 1090. However, I was really surprised to find out that Heinrichs has already decided that Spirit players Aly, Joy, and Jules are on the 2003 World Cup team, but according to Mac, she is still on the bubble. Shannon said that around 12 of the 20 World Cup roster spots have already been decided by Heinrichs and she is in contention for one of the remaining eight spots. I have to admit that I have never listened to this show before on AM 1090 and am not that familiar with the hosts, but was impressed that they were as prepared as they were for this interview. One of the hosts, Scott, was wondering how Mac could not already be on the team especially after scoring four goals against Canada and Mac said that "hopefully that helped my stock a little bit." Both hosts then wanted to know how someone who is a WUSA Founding Member who has played in two Olympics and a World Cup would not be an automatic choice. After Mac said that around 12 players had already been named she went on to say that she was "fighting for one of those last spots." Mac also said that "I am getting old, but I think I can still play" and then told Scott that "I think you are hired as coach, the job is all yours."
I've done a transcript of the interview, and placed it here: http://spiritedsoccer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=303&sid=29cd2e1091bc3f37cf477fb69070b534
How can Mac be on the bubble? Did April watch the game against Canada and other recent matches? Mac is playing well now and she is on the bubble. I don't believe it.
