He's nominated for the FIFPro player of the year award, FIFPro is a worldwide football players' union, completely independant of FIFA. Not that it's not an honor to be nominated, just that you were misrepresenting the award.

The FIFA award is all names and it doesnt recoginize the actual player of the year (ie, imo Deco in 2004). Then again Rio Ferdinand, Cafu and Cicinho are on this Fifpro list as well, not sure they deserve to be. Only defenseman that can say had a better year than Marquez is Cannavaro, and maybe Puyol...but those of us who know futbol know Marquez is a better defenseman than Puyol.

Only 3 defenders nominated, surprise surprise. Cannavaro merits the award but Thuram and Lahm? Thuram had a good 3 or 4 games, which happened to be in the world cup...and he gets the nod over Marquez...bullshit. Marquez had a much better year by far, but whatever. Phillip Lahm?? hes a good attacking wingback, but Marquez did a lot more to deserve to be on this list. Chingen a su ******** madre FIFA.
