Seems like forever, but I remember seeing him play on TV vs. Man City (I think 1st game of season?) in the Prem many years ago. And he looked good, showed a few nice things.

    Ah, the promise of youth.

Sunderland fans truly are fans......what a black hole of poor performances for 20+ years. Having said, they looked promising and nice football for a small bit under Steve Bruce (until it all fell apart again).

It's been where players go to ruin their career usually. Like green slime on the pitch that only affects Sunderland players.

Yes, getting back in Championship alone would be great story indeed. They are way too big a club for Division 1.

Ha I remember that game too. He did look decent, pretty athletic in midfield with some decent passes IIRC. Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans.

We regularly have most of our players in the Championship, which is basically the MLS of Europe. Physical, with a lot of parity, and below the Top 6 teams quite terrible to watch for those of us who like tactics.

But it's sort of like the regression to the median for our guys in Europe, so eventually a good chunk of them will find their way there. And the money is good.

Doesn't quite get an assist, but won't be too sad as they win 5-0. Looks like he played left back.

Sunderland has the worst record of signing flops in the Premier (back when they were there). Newcastle the second.

Both clubs are heavily impaired by location. No one wants to move there, so they have to pay through their nose for mediocre players that end up flopping.

Gooch with the start in a promotion battle against Wycombe. Pretty exciting match so far If you are looking for a random game to watch.

He's had a few good chances but too many poor touches or blocked crosses at the critical moment.

Potential game winning assist for Gooch!

Should have been his second after the striker missed an easier chance a few minutes ago.

    Sunderland concrede on a corner
Pretty nasty collision between the Sunderland goalie and defender caused the delay.

Shame for Sunderland they gave up a 2nd goal off a corner right at the end.

Weird match as Accrington scored down a man & only 3 subs total were used across both teams.

Gooch went 90, no more goals. They are now tied for first on points, but Wigan have 4! matches in hand.

Quick update from a Sunderland fan.

Gooch has generally been off the boil in the past months, in his defence he has been used in several different positions during this time and the general form of the squad has been up and down.

There are rumours that he was offered to Shrewsbury as the January transfer window was closing and Gooch rejected the chance to leave. We’ve recently fired our head coach and hired a new one, so maybe this will be a fresh start for him. His contract is up in the summer so his time at Sunderland might be coming to an end.

Well, S'land don't seem to be going anywhere, so it's probably time for Gooch to move on --although that club is basically all he knows. If they're inviting him out, I guess he could try with a smaller League One club like Shrewsbury (if they don't get relegated) or give the Irish league a shot.

I think we might see him try the MLS, if he doesn’t get renewed.
